I recently attended a course on lesion recognition, and one of the interesting takeaways was the terminology we use when talking about benign treatable skin concerns.

The course emphasised using “lesion” rather than “blemish” in our advertising and treatment descriptions.

It got me thinking…

Does “lesion” sound more professional and clinically accurate — or does it sound a little scary to clients?

And does using a softer word like “blemish” make treatments feel more approachable, or could it somehow undermine the professional integrity of the treatment?

I’d love to know what you think:

LESION — professional, clinical & accurate
BLEMISH — softer, friendlier & more client-focused

Which would you be more comfortable seeing in a treatment description or advert?

Had the absolute pleasure of returning to where it all began for me at South West College Omagh, where I was invited to meet the future leaders of the beauty industry. 🤍
It was such a lovely experience, and a real privilege to spend time with such a talented and inspiring group of girls. The future of beauty is certainly in good hands! Thanks Geraldine Patterson xx

Controversial, but I’ll die on this hill, there is no such thing as perfect skin!

We all want to change something, chase something, covet someone else’s skin. There will be good skin days and bad skin days and any amount of in between!

Genetics play the biggest part, and that’s something you cannot change.

Hormones, diet, lifestyle and habits are absolutely playing their part. Skincare and In-clinic treatments play another important role, but without looking at the whole picture, at best, they are tickling the edges, at worst you’re wasting your money.

One thing you can do is have YOUR best possible skin, taking ownership, making the changes and following a personalised plan can have you achieving your best possible outcome.

I will caveat this with another controversial statement, not everyone selling you a treatment plan and products are going to have your best skin at the core of their recommendations, making the sale, generating revenue and returning clients might just be their motivation. I see this every day when a new client comes to me and it is my greatest bug bear.

What I offer? Honest advice and recommendations, I do not sell products, I will always have your best interests at the forefront of your treatments and home care and support you on your Healthy Skin Journey!

Looking forward to seeing you soon, Caroline x
