This lovely manicure was created using the gorgeous Kinetics Slow Collection — the perfect palette of soft, dreamy tones for something effortlessly chic.

But Lorraine couldn’t resist adding her own little twist… because apparently a little polka dot moment was absolutely necessary. 😂

And honestly? We LOVE it.

Those delicate little dots add just the right amount of personality without taking away from the understated beauty of the set. Lorraine is definitely getting more adventurous with her nail art choices, and we’re here for it!

Sometimes the finish isn’t absolutely perfect — and that’s okay.

Because sometimes, it’s not about pushing for perfection… it’s about understanding the skin, knowing what it needs, and most importantly, knowing when to stop.

This is especially important with this particular client, who won’t mind me saying is a bit of a nibbler, a picker and, frankly, a destroyer 🫣😂

When the skin and nails have been through a lot, trying to achieve a perfectly pristine finish in one appointment isn’t always the right approach. Sometimes the best thing we can do is work with what we have, protect the natural nail and skin, and gradually improve things over time.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing with these nails.

We’re working together to get them looking and feeling the best they can — little by little, appointment by appointment.

These beautiful natural nails have had a meticulous manicure followed by a hard gel application, creating strength, structure and that gorgeous clean finish.

✨ THREE YEARS AGO TODAY ✨
Three years ago today, I was SO proud of this set. I genuinely thought I’d created a sleek, clean and beautiful set of nails.

Looking back at it now with the knowledge and experience I’ve gained since, all I can see are over-filed and compromised sidewalls, unnecessary bulk and an attempt to create a sleek appearance at the expense of the natural nail.

And this is exactly why continued education is so important.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Three years ago, I didn’t have the understanding of natural nail anatomy, architecture, structure, product placement and nail health that I have today. I was doing what I thought was right with the knowledge I had at the time.

Fast forward three years and I look at this set completely differently.

My approach now is about so much more than making a set look pretty. It’s about understanding the natural nail, preserving the sidewalls, creating the correct architecture and structure, choosing the right product and making sure the finished enhancement works with the natural nail rather than against it.

I’m not embarrassed by my old work — I’m actually proud of how far it shows I’ve come. 🥹

Because growth isn’t about looking back and thinking “I was terrible.”

It’s looking back and thinking: “Wow… look how much I’ve learned.”

And I’ll never stop learning, because there is always another technique to perfect, another skill to develop and another way to provide an even better service for my clients.

This Kinetics Espresso is honestly one of those shades that speaks for itself. A beautiful, rich, deep brown with the most gorgeous warmth — the perfect autumnal shade.

Paired with a tortoise shell accent using the Nail Thoughts Tortoise Kit, which honestly makes creating tortie nails an absolute breeze. The depth, dimension and warmth are just perfection.

Slimmer doesn’t always mean healthier.

One thing I’ve changed massively in my technique over the years is filing into the natural nail’s sidewalls to create a slimmer, more refined appearance.

And yes… I used to do it too.

The picture is proof.

The sidewalls of the natural nail provide important structural support. When we aggressively file them away simply to make the nail appear narrower, we’re removing healthy natural nail unnecessarily.

Over-filing can contribute to:
• Thinner, weaker sidewalls
• Increased sensitivity
• Splitting and peeling
• Loss of structural support
• Increased risk of breakage and trauma
• Onycholysis (separation of the nail plate from the nail bed)

A nail can be beautifully slim and well-balanced without compromising the natural nail underneath.

This is something education has completely changed my approach to. I’m no longer interested in creating a certain look at the expense of natural nail health.

My job is to work with your natural nail, not against it — creating beautiful architecture, balance and shape while preserving as much healthy natural nail as possible.

And honestly? Looking back at my old work is a reminder of why continuing education matters.

We should never be afraid to say, “I used to do that too.”
