My 3 biggest regrets when opening my business🧚✨💫

1 - Training in multiple treatments at once
Offering multiple types of services is so rewarding, but trying to learn how to do 3 new things at the same time is hardddd. I started offering makeup for around 2 months before I did a lash & brow course, and started taking clients immediately after. Because of this, my progress compared to other techs who have been qualified for the same amount of time isn’t as developed. I know it isn’t a race, but my business could be in such a better place and more reliable if I had taken my time with each service. If i was starting again, I would perfect each craft before even thinking about training in something else.

2 - Shying away from posting on social media
I used to only ever post photos of my work, and rarely showed my face on my page. Everyone knows how daunting it is to start posting what you want, because people talk and judge and you don’t want people to think of you in certain ways. But, I’ve realised that it actually just doesn’t matter, and people who have the time and effort to judge have nothing better to do with their boring lives. Social media is the key to success in 2026, and personal brand is just as important as your portfolio. I’m not where I’d like to be with my confidence in posting myself on here, but it’s certainly getting somewhere. ps- you will never see me look like the first photo in the salon.

3 - Not having a plan
When I realised I had some money saved at 17, my mind went straight to doing beauty courses because I’ve always enjoyed it. I never had a plan, I just thought it was something fun to do, and I’ve missed out on so many opportunities because of this. It’s been a bit of a free-for-all the past nearly 5 years, because I’ve had absolutely no idea where I want to end up or things I want to achieve🤣. Finally, I’m at a point where I have plans and am getting more structure to my business, and it feels so relieving because I can see the difference it has made already in such a short space of time.

I’m excited to see what the rest of 26 and 27 will bring for byindiamai, and super duper grateful for everyone encouraging and supporting me🩵

💫SERVICE UPDATE: brows

As of this week, I will be stopping offering all brow services until further notice.

This is something I have thought about for a while now, and decided it is definitely for the better. Brows are my least popular service, and because of this, the standard of service I am giving isn’t something I’m proud of or comfortable with. It isn’t fair on clients to be paying for a service, that 1 they may not be fully happy with, but also I am not happy with. Brows stress me outtt, and it’s because I do them so rarely. My biggest regret with my business is training in multiple treatments at once, rather than perfecting my craft one at a time.

This won’t be forever, I have plans to practise and complete additional training to get me to the standard I’m happy with. There may be some model slots advertised on my page in the next few months at discounted prices, which anyone is more than welcome to take.

Thank you to all my clients that have been booked in with me recently for brows, I’ve moaned to everyone about things not going right and I know that was probably a bit daunting so I appreciate people sticking with me for it.
