My lovely client came in today for her four weekly hard gel rebalance.
We went from chrome nails to glitter and I am all for it!
There’s something about a bit of sparkle that makes me smile ✨

With a rebalance I am doing the following steps:

💅 Removing so much of the existing product
💅 Shortening the length as much as the client wishes
💅 Shaping the nail to the desired shape
💅 Completing cuticle work using Russian manicure techniques
💅 Adding fresh hard gel product to bridge the gap and readjust the structure
💅 Applying the gel polish should it be required
💅 Doing a quick finish file
💅 Applying a hydrating mousse to the skin surrounding the nail plate

There’s nothing quite like a before and after photo of someone’s scalp, sometimes clients will come to me and when we discuss their scalp they’ll feel like they have a particular scalp type, for example, maybe they feel like they have an oily scalp or a dry scalp.

Now, sometimes clients are spot on, but there are times when a client has it completely wrong and they’re shocked to discover their scalp is different to what they thought.
That’s what makes scalps so interesting! So many factors play into the condition of the scalp, some examples are:

What story does this scalp analysis tell us?

What we can see here is a build up of dryness surrounding the area, but why does dry scalp happen?

A dry scalp happens when the skin on your head loses too much moisture and natural oils, causing the outer layer of skin cells to dry out, shrink, and shed as tiny, powdery white flakes.

Dry skin is made up of the following:
🍃Dead Skin Cells (Keratin): Like the skin on the rest of your body, the scalp constantly sheds old skin cells made of a tough, fibrous protein called keratin. When moisture is depleted, these cells loosen and flake off before they are ready.
🍃Lack of Sebum: Unlike dandruff—which is caused by excess oil (sebum) mixed with yeast—a dry scalp is made of starved, dehydrated skin tissue that lacks enough natural lipid protection.

The common causes of dry skin are:
🍃Harsh Products: Shampoos with strong sulfates, artificial fragrances, or heavy alcohols strip the scalp of its natural protective barrier.
🍃Environmental Factors: Cold weather, low humidity, indoor heating, and hot water dry out the skin.
🍃Skin Conditions: Mild eczema, contact dermatitis, or underlying conditions can compromise skin barrier function.

Throwback to a treatment from last week where I did an eyebrow wax and tint for one of my lovely ladies.
