Should you scrub before a wax? Yes. The mistake is doing it the morning of.

The underlined line on this post is the one to remember. Never on the day.

A scrub rubs away dry, dead skin. Done gently a day or two before, it lets the hair slide out more easily and stops hairs getting trapped under that dry layer. Trapped hairs are how ingrowns start, the ones that curl back and grow under the skin.

Scrub the same morning and you’ve just thinned the top of your skin. Wax clings to it more, and when it comes off it can take some of that skin with it. You’re left with raw patches that sting for a few days, all from trying to be prepared.

See the little figure on the shelf, hugging her knees? That’s freshly scrubbed skin on waxing day.

Gently means soft circles with your hands or a mitt. You’re not scouring an oven.

I’m Tracey. I’ve spent 20+ years as an intimate wax and advanced ingrown hair specialist in Milton Keynes, and I’ll always choose a slower, gentler appointment over a sore one.

So watch what your waxer does before the wax comes out. They should look at your skin properly first. Any patch that’s pink or raw gets left alone, even if it means you walk out with a bit of hair still there. A waxer who goes straight over angry skin to finish the job is rushing you.

Follow along if you want to know exactly what to expect before, during and after so there are no surprises.

Be honest, have you ever given yourself a proper scrub in the shower an hour before your appointment?

I send people home sometimes. I’d do it again tomorrow.

Usually it’s for the reason in pink on this post. Their hair is too short.

Wax can only pull out what it can hold. Shorter than a grain of rice and there’s nothing to hold, so the hair snaps at the skin. You leave smooth, then the stubble’s back by Thursday. Those snapped hairs are also the ones most likely to curl back under the skin into sore ingrown bumps.

Twenty-odd years as an intimate wax and advanced ingrown hair specialist in Milton Keynes has taught me that a no today saves you a week of itching.

So watch for this. A good waxer asks when you last shaved before you’ve even got undressed. Then they look at the hair themselves rather than taking your word for it. If it’s not ready, you’ll get a straight answer and a date, roughly 3 weeks after that last shave.

Turning you away costs them the booking. A waxer who’ll lose money to look after your skin is one to keep.

Follow along if you want to know exactly what to expect before, during and after so there are no surprises.

Go on, what’s the shortest you’ve ever turned up with and hoped nobody would notice?

The quietest word on this graphic is the one I hear most.

DOWN. Small, pale, squeezed between two words that are shouting. That’s exactly how it comes out on the phone. “Hi, I’d like a wax... down... there?”

Then she arrives and asks if it’s normal to be this nervous. It is. Every time.

I’m Tracey. I’ve spent over 20 years doing intimate waxing in Milton Keynes, and most of my days go on ingrown hairs, so I’ve seen what a bad Brazilian leaves behind. It looks a lot like those pink squiggles under THERE. Hairs that snapped off instead of coming out whole, now growing back curled under the skin.

In the room, it should go like this. You lie back, knees out, and your waxer works in small patches. Before every pull, their other hand presses your skin flat, like holding a plaster down before you rip it. One quick pull, low and close to your body. A breath. Next patch.

If their free hand is waving about during the pull, your skin lifts with the wax. That’s where the snapped hairs and the sore week come from.

It should feel quick and firm. You shouldn’t feel them digging or forcing anything.

Most people have no idea what that second hand is meant to be doing. Now you do.

What’s the daftest thing you’ve done to get ready for a Brazilian? I’ve heard a few.

If you’ve been told you bruise because your skin is sensitive, I’d want to see her hands first.

This cat has it down. Chin up, one paw crossed in front of the other, strutting like he owns the building. Not a hair on him. Now check his neck and back legs. Folds everywhere.

Smooth and loose at the same time. Skin is like that on everyone, and the bikini area is the loosest of the lot.

Pull wax off skin that’s free to move and the skin lifts with the hair. That’s the bruise. That’s the soreness still hanging about days later.

I’m Tracey. I’ve done intimate waxing and advanced ingrown hair work in Milton Keynes for 20+ years, and bruising is the thing I hear blamed on clients most. It’s rarely their skin.

Watch the therapists other hand. It should be flat on you, stretching the skin firm right beside the wax before anything comes off. Then one quick pull that skims low along your body, never lifting up and away from it.

If their free hand is floating about in the air, or the wax gets yanked up towards the ceiling, that’s on their technique.

A good wax should never feel like a fight. That’s the smooth energy. You’re done before you’ve even braced yourself.

Follow along if you want to know exactly what to expect before, during and after so there are no surprises.

Be honest, have you ever been told you bruise easily when really nobody was holding your skin?

Halfway through her first Brazilian, she asked if she could stop. Then she said sorry.

I hear that sorry a lot. It usually means someone, somewhere, made her feel that stopping was a nuisance.

I’m Tracey, Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist, 20+ years waxing in Milton Keynes. That pause icon at the top of this card is the one I’d fight hardest for.

Any waxer will say yes if you ask. What you’re checking is whether they tell you before you’ve had to ask. Better still, whether they give you a way to do it. A raised hand works. So does “hang on.” Sort it while you’re still dressed, and you’ll never have to find the words with your knees up.

When you do pause, a good waxer presses a warm hand over the skin and waits. Quietly. You decide when it carries on.

Follow along if you want to know exactly what to expect before, during and after so there are no surprises.

Have you ever said sorry to your waxer for something that wasn’t your fault?

Three of the reasons you get ingrowns a week later are fixable at home. The fourth happened on the couch.

Every hair drawn in this carousel is stuck under the surface. On slide 3 it’s dead skin in the way. By slide 5 the skin’s so dry the hair has given up and coiled.

A gentle scrub from day two and daily moisturiser deal with most of that. Looser knickers take care of slide 4.

What you can’t scrub away is a hair that snapped during the wax. It regrows sooner, with a blunt tip that bends the second it meets resistance, and it’s the one most likely to end up looking like slide 5.

You can check for this yourself tonight. Get close to a mirror. Clean follicles look empty. Little dark dots sitting under the skin, like stubble that’s already there, usually mean hairs broke off. A few are normal, especially on a first wax while your growth is still settling into a cycle. A whole patch of them is a different story.

The cause is nearly always the pull. Your skin should be held flat while the wax comes off low and close to the body. Lift it up towards the ceiling and you get dots.

I’m Tracey, and I specialise in intimate waxing and advanced ingrown hair work. After more than 20 years in Milton Keynes, this is still the most useful thing I think nobody tells clients.

Follow along if you want to know exactly what to expect before, during and after so there are no surprises.

Be honest. Have you ever checked for the dots, or did you just blame your skin?

Waxing doesn’t make hair grow back thicker. It never has. This myth survives because most clients never push back on it.

Look at this room. Every product on that shelf gets checked and reset before you walk in. That level of care has nothing to do with your hair’s thickness, because nothing a waxer does touches the follicle that decides that. Only your body controls that.

Regrowth after waxing comes in tapered, not blunt like shaving leaves it. People read “softer tip” as “thicker hair” and the myth writes itself from there.

I’m an Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist with over twenty years in this industry, here in Milton Keynes, and I’ve heard this claim from clients who were never once asked to question it.

That’s the actual skill to look for in a waxer: whether they can tell you why something happens, not just what to expect.

Has anyone ever told you waxing thickens your hair, and did you believe them at the time?
