How many people have a cat like Mali the Marvelous who joins the morning walk around a field? When Rosie is finally exhausted chasing balls we stand and just admire the stunning view of our village in Kent with the Oast Houses giving it the unique Kentish feel.
A lovely start before writing up reports from my colour analysis sessions.

Goldhawk Road in West London is a great place to find bridal fabrics. I did a big shop there when I bought this one for the new BRIDAL SWATCH COLLECTION launching soon.
Spending the day cataloguing over a hundred samples and it is joyful after a busy weekend of colour sessions n the studio.

Colour Analysis for Brides
Today this pack of 114 fabric swatches is on its way to Qatar and the amazing Nada who way back in January asked me to make her three swatches for each season.
I got a bit carried away. Months later I have a full illustrated folder of fabrics, lace overlays, jewellery metals, embellishment and graphics of examples for each seasons brides, floral arrangements and bridesmaid colours.
There are fabric examples of different fabric weights, drapes, textures, sheer, shine or matte so brides can understand which fabrics are their best.

I had a great colour analysis session with Joe yesterday. He is about to complete his Blue Badge London Tour Guide qualification and he wanted outfits that would reflect his signature style of wearing colour. His wardrobe needs to be smart enough for clients at The Ritz but also casual enough for school groups in a heatwave.
He is a Cool Summer who likes to go to the deepest colours and his extrovert side (and the need to be seen in a crowd) meant he wanted colourful tops and jackets.
This is his palette and each page in his folder is an outfit idea.
I can’t wait to see his new work wardrobe!

Another day making swatches. 25 new colours added this week. Happy colourful days - another messy room!

Say hello to Frank, a handsome Soft Summer friend.
Frank agreed to help in a training session and I now use him as an example in my colour analysis sessions to show how one swatch is a target and does not have to be matched perfectly. I do not want frustrated shopping - it is hard enough to get close never mind being precise!
It is important to remember that LIGHT CHANGES AROUND US THROUGH THE SEASONS and colour is all about light.
On a very hot day the light is bright and we appear brighter and everyone wears slightly brighter and lighter clothes than normal.
Conversely in wintertime light is greyed and dull and those summer clothes just feel too bright and we chose slightly softer and deeper colours. (The brightest seasons may just swap black trousers for white and not change the brightness of their colours).
Colour fans and swatches give you your best target brightness level and usually show a range of depths with a focus on your very best.

Another afternoon adding new swatches to my collection.
I sell packs of fifty but on average have seventy to a hundred for each season.
I get to build palettes with clients in every session so I can see when they want to borrow from other seasons and review if I need to add a few new ones.

Nada, my friend who is a colour analyst in Qatar asked me to prepare some wedding swatches for her, and finally I have spent the weekend starting the project so that I have a shopping list. I was inspired by a visit with the sewing group to see the Queen’s wardrobe at Buckingham Palace (well The King’s Gallery behind the palace ). Stunning beaded dresses, her wedding dress and the picture here of her coronation gown.

Update on my project for black skin tones. The first big finding was that the neutrals in the palettes are the most in need of change. Versions of deep and medium brown, tan, cream, and ivory need to be added to lots of palettes- even cool ones! I have bought over fifty new options and today is the wet day that I am sorting them out.
Exciting times …..and very untidy 😂

I am so lucky to have been able to meet Nada in Qatar. She is a very experienced colour stylist in Doha and we last met in my home in the UK when she came to visit my studio.
Working with stylists from different parts of the world adds so much to our knowledge. Nada is passionate and very open to sharing her knowledge.
Andy sat quietly over dinner as we constantly updated each other on our businesses.
