Necks.. a common concern amongst people I see in clinic.

Whether it’s skin quality, from weight loss, ageing, loss of elasticity, tech neck, muscle banding, pigmentation or repetitive movement pull.
These all affect the neck, but each treatment plan is different.

Necks are so often neglected in comparison to the face. I’ve met many people who are diligent with SPF to their face, but yet never apply to their neck. Lifestyle factors such as being hunched over screens for hours, genetics and consistent skincare routine all play a part in the appearance of the neck.

Debunking the Dermaplaning myths 🔨

Because let’s be honest, if this was the case, there wouldn’t be a multi-million hair transplant industry and after a few shaved heads, men would have full luscious locks back..

Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) which is fundamentally different to head/body hair - this is called terminal hair, which is much courser and thicker.

Cutting of terminal hair also doesn’t make the hair grow back thicker and darker. It’s just from the blunt cut tip that makes it feel so. Just like when you get your hair cut, it can feel ‘fatter’ at the ends.

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation that removes not only vellus hair, but dead skin cells and product/environmental build up that can contribute to a dull appearance.

With treatment, make up goes on smoother and due to renewed skin, better product pe*******on, leading to improved skin health.

As we age, our skin cell cycle slows down and the top layer of our skin takes longer to slough off. Dermaplaning helps that process evenly and is recommended every 6-8 weeks.

✨ Acne Scar Reduction ✨

This Acne Awareness Month I wanted to share one of my lovely patients who came to me for help in improving her acne scarring.

Scars can be incredibly difficult to treat; dependant on the age and structure of the scar. They usually will require a unique, combination treatment approach and regular maintenance to improve their appearance and treat the acne condition itself.

▪️ How it affects the skin:
Inflammatory and severe acne can be caused by excessive oil production and trapping bacteria within the pores, leading to pustules/papules that can be red/swollen/tender. Some cysts, like boils are deep, very painful and carry the highest risk of scarring as it destroys the collagen in the skin, which can make the skin dip inwards or be raised.

▪️ What we treated:
Boxcar acne scarring - depressions in the skin, most commonly seen on cheeks and temples.

Rolling acne scarring - shallow, wide depressions caused by fibrous bands pulling the skin downward, resulting in an uneven texture.

▪️ What we used:
▫️ 3 sessions of Polynucleotides with needle and cannula with subcision to untether the skin.
▫️ 3 Microneedling sessions to induct collagen production building and restructuring of the skin.

Maintenance treatments for acne scarring are recommended alongside a consistent skincare routine targeting oiliness and congestion to manage flare ups and prevent further scarring as well as increasing skin cell turnover.
