What your hairstylist really wishes you knew 👀
We love helping you achieve beautiful, healthy hair — but healthy hair is always a partnership between salon care and home care ✨
A few things your hairstylist wishes every client knew:
• Consistency matters more than quick fixes
• Heat protection is NOT optional
• Too many products can overload the hair & scalp
• Tight styles can cause long-term damage
• Healthy hair takes time, patience & maintenance
And the biggest one?
Communication helps us help YOU 🤍
Being honest about:
✔ Your hair history
✔ Home routine
✔ Previous colour/chemical services
✔ Hair goals & struggles
allows us to recommend the best care for your hair type and condition.
Healthy hair isn’t built in one appointment — it’s built through good habits, proper care and consistency.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis (SebDerm) is more than “just dandruff” 👀
It’s a common inflammatory scalp condition that can cause:
• Persistent flaking
• Itching or burning
• Redness and irritation
• Greasy-looking scales
• Increased shedding during flare-ups
SebDerm is often linked to excess oil production, scalp inflammation and an overgrowth of naturally occurring yeast on the skin. Stress, hormones, product build-up and certain hair products can also trigger flare-ups.
This is why more oil isn’t always the answer ✨
Heavy oils, thick styling products and clogged follicles can sometimes make symptoms worse — especially when the scalp is already inflamed or congested.
Healthy scalp care is about balance:
✔ Keeping the scalp clean
✔ Avoiding excessive build-up
✔ Using scalp-friendly products
✔ Managing inflammation early
✔ Being consistent with scalp care
SebDerm is a chronic condition, meaning it can come and go — but with the right approach, symptoms can often be managed very effectively 🤍
If your scalp is persistently irritated, inflamed or shedding excessively, it’s always worth seeing a dermatologist or trichologist for proper assessment and treatment advice.
Healthy scalp. Healthy hair.

Rosemary oil has gone viral for hair growth… but it may not be right for every scalp 👀
While some people benefit from rosemary oil, others may experience:
• Irritation or burning
• Increased itching or flaking
• Congested follicles
• Product build-up
• Worse seborrhoeic dermatitis flare-ups
• Increased scalp sensitivity
Your scalp is skin — and not every skin type reacts the same way.
For some people, especially those with:
• oily scalps
• sensitive skin
• seborrhoeic dermatitis
• folliculitis
• demodex-related irritation
heavy oils or DIY scalp treatments can sometimes do more harm than good.
Healthy hair growth starts with understanding your scalp, not blindly following trends ✨
What actually matters:
✔ A balanced, healthy scalp
✔ Proper cleansing
✔ Scalp-friendly products
✔ Managing inflammation & build-up
✔ Professional advice when needed
Hair thinning and scalp issues can be caused by genetics, hormones, stress, inflammation and lifestyle — and treatment should always be personalised 🤍
If your scalp is persistently irritated, itchy or shedding excessively, it’s worth speaking to a dermatologist or trichologist rather than self-treating endlessly.
Healthy scalp. Healthy hair.

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp ✨
Your scalp is the foundation for strong, shiny and resilient hair — and when it’s out of balance, your hair often shows the signs first.
Common signs your scalp may need more attention:
• Itching or irritation
• Excess oiliness or buildup
• Flaking or dryness
• Increased shedding
• Hair feeling thinner, weaker or lifeless
The good news? Small habits can make a huge difference 🤍
✔ Keep your scalp clean without over-washing
✔ Massage regularly to stimulate circulation
✔ Use products suited to your scalp type
✔ Stay hydrated and nourish from within
✔ Avoid excessive heat and very tight hairstyles
Scalp health can also be affected by genetics, hormones, stress and lifestyle — but there are solutions available.
If you’re concerned about thinning or scalp issues, it’s always worth speaking to a dermatologist or hair specialist. We’ve also seen amazing results from PRP scalp treatments ✨

Ever heard of Demodex? 👀
These microscopic mites naturally live in our hair follicles and oil glands — and in small amounts, they’re completely normal. But when they overgrow, they can contribute to scalp irritation and hair problems.
Signs your scalp may be struggling:
• Persistent itching or flaking
• Oily, congested scalp
• Redness or irritation
• Folliculitis-like bumps
• Increased shedding or sensitivity
This is why more oil isn’t always better. Heavy oils, product buildup and clogged follicles can sometimes make certain scalp conditions worse — especially for people prone to seborrhoeic dermatitis, inflammation or excessive oiliness.
Healthy scalp care is about balance, not overload ✨
What can help:
✔ Keeping the scalp properly cleansed
✔ Avoiding heavy pore-clogging products
✔ Using lightweight scalp-friendly products
✔ Washing brushes & pillowcases regularly
✔ Seeking professional advice if symptoms persist
If you’re struggling with ongoing scalp irritation, excessive shedding or inflammation, it’s always worth seeing a dermatologist or trichologist for proper assessment 🤍
Healthy scalp = healthier hair.

Hair shedding is completely normal — most people lose around 50–100 hairs a day as part of the natural hair growth cycle ✨
You may notice more hair on wash days or when brushing, especially with longer or thicker hair. But if you’re noticing sudden thinning, patchy areas, excessive shedding or scalp irritation, it’s always worth getting it checked professionally.
Hair thinning can sometimes be genetic, hormonal or linked to stress, diet and scalp health — but the good news is that there are now more solutions available than ever before 🤍
A healthy scalp plays a huge part in healthy hair growth 💆🏻♀️
If you’re concerned about hair thinning or hair loss:
✔ Speak to a dermatologist or GP
✔ Check for underlying causes
✔ Consider professional scalp and hair restoration treatments

Worried about taking your little one to the hairdresser? 🤍✂️
A child’s first haircut (or even just haircuts in general!) can feel like a big experience — new sounds, mirrors, chairs and lots of unfamiliar things.
The good news? Even the smallest children are looked after by Ela, who is highly experienced with kiddie cuts and always takes a calm, gentle approach ✨
A few tips to help prepare your child:
🤍 Talk positively about the haircut before arriving
🤍 Bring their favourite toy, comforter or snack
🤍 Try to book around nap times and when they’re well rested
🤍 Stay calm and reassuring — children often mirror your energy
🤍 Don’t worry if they’re nervous… patience is key
At Habit Hair, we always do our best to make little ones feel safe, comfortable and looked after 🫶
And of course… every child gets a little sweet treat after their visit 🍭🤍

How often should you really wash your hair? 🤔🧴
There isn’t one perfect answer — it depends on your hair type, scalp condition and lifestyle.
Here’s a simple guide 👇
✨ Fine / oily hair
Usually every 1–2 days. Oil tends to build up faster, which can leave hair looking flat and greasy.
✨ Normal hair
Around 2–3 times a week is often enough to keep the scalp clean without stripping natural oils.
✨ Thick / dry / curly hair
Often 1–2 times a week works well, as these hair types usually need more natural moisture.
✨ If you exercise often or use lots of styling products
You may need to wash more frequently depending on sweat and product build-up.
A common myth: Washing your hair too often doesn’t always “train” it to be less oily — using the right shampoo and routine matters more than forcing long gaps.
Biggest tip?
Wash based on your scalp needs, not someone else’s routine. Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp ✨
Save this for your hair care routine 🤍✂️

Should you brush your hair wet or dry? 🤔
The answer: it depends on your hair type.
💧 Wet hair is more fragile because the hair shaft swells and stretches, making it easier to snap or break.
If your hair is straight or fine:
It’s usually best to gently detangle when mostly dry, or use a wide-tooth comb if needed when damp.
If your hair is curly or textured:
Brushing when damp with conditioner or a detangling brush is often kinder and helps reduce frizz.
Biggest tip?
Start from the ends and work upwards — pulling from the roots can cause unnecessary breakage.
