What does art have to do with surgery? For me, quite a lot.
Sculpture has taught me to look beyond symmetry and conventional ideas of perfection. When I look at a face, I am not simply thinking about what could be changed. I am thinking about what gives that person character, what makes them recognisable, and what should be preserved.
That way of seeing has shaped the way I approach surgery: with restraint, observation and respect for individuality.
In my latest journal, I explore the connection between sculpture, the trained eye and the way I think about surgical aesthetics.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I want to talk about something that comes after treatment: how the breast looks and feels once it is over.
It may seem surprising, but after a lumpectomy the changes can sometimes be greater than after a mastectomy. Less tissue is removed, but radiotherapy is often part of the treatment, and that makes a difference.
NICE guidelines say all women should be offered the chance of high-quality breast reconstruction. That includes women who have had a lumpectomy.
There is no single approach, because no two situations are the same. There are, however, real options, and an honest conversation with an FRCS (Plast) accredited plastic surgeon is the right place to begin.
I have included the questions I would want every woman to bring to that conversation. Save them for later, or share them with someone who may need them.

A facelift should never announce itself. When it is done well, people notice that you look rested, not that something has been done.
The difference lies beneath the skin. Lifting the deeper structures of the face and neck allows excess skin to be removed without tension, and restoring lost volume with fat brings back the contour and depth that time takes away. Pulling skin tight on its own does neither.
It also helps to know what recovery really involves. Most patients recover in four to six weeks, but the final result takes six months or more to settle. Planning for that time is part of a good decision.
I have put the recovery timeline and the questions worth asking into this post. Save it for later, or share it with someone who is weighing their options.

Thank you so much for these kind words. They mean a great deal to me.
Choosing a surgeon is a deeply personal decision, and for me, everything begins with the consultation. It is where I listen, where we talk honestly about what you hope for, and where we look at the options together.
Tools such as simulation can help patients visualise different implant options. The most important part of planning, however, is understanding what feels right for each individual. For many women, that means a natural result that enhances rather than changes who they are.
Surgery is personal. It should be purposeful, not just popular.
If you have been thinking about breast surgery, you are welcome to message the team whenever you are ready to start a conversation.
Labiaplasty is a deeply personal decision, and for many women, it is not simply about appearance.
I often meet patients who experience discomfort during exercise, intimacy, certain clothing or everyday activities. Others simply feel self conscious and want to understand whether surgery could help them feel more comfortable in their own body.
During consultation, my role is to listen carefully, understand what is bothering you and explain what can realistically be achieved.
Every woman’s reasons are different, and the right outcome should always be tailored to the individual.
If you are considering labiaplasty and would like to talk through your concerns in a private and supportive setting, you can book a consultation with me.

The most common reason people consider upper eyelid surgery is simple: they want to look as fresh as they feel.
But heavy eyelids are not only about appearance. The weight of the skin can narrow peripheral vision, make night driving harder and keep the forehead working all day to hold the lids up. That constant effort can show up as frown lines, neck tension and headaches.
Blepharoplasty is one of the most requested facial procedures in both men and women, and it can help at any age when excess skin or under-eye bags are the concern. What it cannot do is stop time, and I think it is important to say so. Results can last five to seven years, and the aim should always be a result that suits the patient's own features.
FRCS Plast is more than a set of letters after my name.
It represents years of surgical training, specialist examinations and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards in plastic surgery.
As an FRCS Plast certified plastic surgeon, my role is not simply to perform a procedure. It is to assess carefully, explain honestly and recommend what is genuinely appropriate for each patient.
Surgery should never feel rushed or unclear. You should understand your options, your expected outcome and the reasoning behind every recommendation.
For me, trust begins with knowledge, transparency and a conversation where you feel completely comfortable asking questions.
If you are considering plastic surgery and would like to understand what may be suitable for you, you can book a consultation with me to discuss your concerns and goals.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month I will be sharing what I have learnt about breast reconstruction over more than three decades, in the hope that it helps someone facing this decision feel a little less alone.
I spent 25 years in the NHS, ten of them as a consultant in microvascular breast reconstruction, rebuilding breasts for women after mastectomy. If those years taught me one thing, it is that no two reconstructions are the same, because no two women are.
Some women choose reconstruction at the same time as their mastectomy. For others, it is wiser to wait, because chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other treatment needs to come first. Neither is automatically right. The decision is made together, with the woman and her oncologist, before surgery ever takes place.
The same is true of technique. An implant, her own tissue, fat transfer, or a combination: each has its place, and the most suitable option depends on her anatomy, her treatment and what she wants for herself.
Reconstruction is not about replacing what was lost. It is about restoring a woman to herself, in a way that respects her body, her treatment and her choices.
If you or someone you love is at this point, you can read more on my blog via the link in bio. And if you have a question, you are welcome to ask it below.
Fat is one of the most versatile tools we have in plastic surgery.
I often describe it as liquid gold because it allows us to use your own tissue to restore volume, refine contours and improve areas where the skin or soft tissue has been affected.
Fat transfer can be used in many ways, including:
• restoring facial volume and softening hollow areas
• enhancing facial contours in a subtle, natural way
• restoring or adding breast volume
• improving contour irregularities
• supporting the appearance of certain scars
• improving soft tissue quality in carefully selected areas
• restoring volume after weight loss, ageing or previous surgery
One of the reasons I value fat transfer so highly is that it can be incredibly versatile. We are not simply adding volume. We can use it to reshape, rebalance and restore in a way that feels very natural to the patient.
Of course, not every patient or every area is suitable for fat transfer, which is why assessment is so important.
If you are curious about what fat transfer could do for you, book a consultation with me and we can discuss the possibilities in detail.
A day to remember. 🤍
