Erin’s scar journey is one we’ve loved following 💙

Not all scars look the same or develop in the same way.
Some fade until they’re barely noticeable. Some stay raised. Some grow beyond the original wound area. Others may leave a dip or indentation in the skin.
That’s why understanding your scar’s appearance can be helpful when considering the right care.
In this guide, we cover four common scar appearances:
Mature / flat scars
These usually become softer, flatter and less noticeable with time.
Hypertrophic scars
Raised scars that stay within the boundaries of the original wound.
Keloid scars
Raised scars that can grow beyond the original wound area.
Atrophic scars
Sunken or indented scars, often linked to a loss of collagen or support beneath the skin.
Scars can continue changing for months, and everyone heals differently. Skin tone, genetics, age, the type of surgery or injury, and the care received afterwards can all influence how a scar develops.
Once the wound has fully healed, protecting the area from UV exposure and following professional advice can form part of a sensible scar-care routine.
