Today is World Bee Day, and it feels important to stop and appreciate these extraordinary little creatures.
Bees do so much more than make honey. They pollinate the flowers we love, support biodiversity, and play such a vital role in the food we eat and the health of our planet. Without them, our world would look very different.
At IL•LUMINATE , bees are part of our story because we use beeswax in our candles, but our connection goes beyond that.
We love beeswax for its beautiful warm glow, of course, but also because it comes from nature and reflects what we care about: thoughtful craftsmanship, sustainability, and creating something beautiful with purpose.
It’s quite incredible really that something so small can have such an enormous impact 😊
That feels meaningful to us because IL•LUMINATE has always been about more than candles. It’s about creating moments of calm, warmth and light in busy lives, and celebrating the quiet beauty of natural materials and simple rituals.
So today, we’re celebrating the bees…..for everything they do, often unnoticed and they matter more than most of us realise. 🐝
There are places that sparkle long after you’ve left them. The Ch*****ne region was one of those for me… breathtaking landscapes, centuries of craftsmanship, an extraordinary depth of knowledge behind every premium cuvée, and moments of pure joy I’ll be thinking about for a very long time.

Signed up for the AJ Bell 3 Valley Rally with Team Girl Powder…..me, Laura, Eve and Emily in support of
I thought it was going to be a fun easy ski event.
Errrrr not
Day one was basically a mountain-wide scavenger hunt in a complete whiteout. 60+ checkpoints across the 3 Valleys, skiing to each one and taking a selfie as proof and
all before the 5pm cut-off. Yikes.
There were moments you couldn’t see a thing. (On a black run 🫣) We just kept going and hoped for the best.
Then came the timed challenges….(no time for a toilet break btw )
Zip wires, three of them, and if you missed your timed slot you were hit with penalties. (Harsh !)
Then the biathlon.
10 targets to hit, under pressure.
I genuinely thought I’d lost it because I couldn’t see a single one…turns out the r***e was packed with snow…. I mean 😤
Day two didn’t ease up either. Distance challenge with trackers on, covering as much ground as possible across the mountains. (Omg I loved it. Basically you ski as fast as you can without any stopping. My kinda skiing frankly)
Then straight into the slalom.
And suddenly… I cared a lot more than I expected. Good old competitive ski legs were on. And jeeez I loved it. (Shame we had to race against some Olympians )
Oh dear…..so much fun.
It wasn’t smooth.
It wasn’t easy.
And it definitely wasn’t just a “ski weekend.”
But it was one of those experiences you don’t forget, the adrenaline, the chaos, the people and a fabulous 80s party.
And the reason behind it all, raising money for made it feel like something much bigger. Thank you my fabulous BBC colleagues Also to for believing in me. To hilarious (Louise we missed you) for endless energy and so many new friends I couldn’t tag in this. Thank you for the laughs.
