A TRUE COUNTRY EXPERIENCE - meet the locals in a country inn with a MODERN TWIST. Good Food- tasty, inventive cuisine, good value - and fabulous breakfasts

The Hand at Llanarmon is an ancient hostelry with all the attributes you’d expect – bags of character, a cosy, relaxing ambience and a warm welcome from your hosts, Jonathan and Jackie Greatorex. As soon as you arrive you feel the weight of the world dissolving as the surroundings work their magic. All the classic ingredients are here – old beams, roaring fireplaces, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale and good food. The latter is seriously good. Thanks to the talents of Head Chef Grant Mulholland and his team, The Hand is renowned for award-winning food; an inventive marriage of country fare and sophisticated metropolitan cuisine.

We had such a lovely stay at The Hand at Llanarmon! 🏔️✨ @thehandhotel

As part of the @thisiswrecsam trip earlier this month, where we explored many of the great things that Wrexham has to offer, we stayed at the beautiful The Hand at Llanarmon. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, with so much character and a really cosy, welcoming feel. The surrounding scenery is stunning too - waking up to those beautiful views made the stay feel like a proper escape from everyday life. 🥰

One of my favourite parts was the outdoor hot tub and sauna. There’s something so relaxing about sitting in the hot tub surrounded by the Welsh countryside, especially with the views! 🧖‍♀️🌿 It was the perfect way to unwind after exploring the area.

Breakfast was also delicious, with a great choice and everything tasting fresh and well prepared. The Full English was so tasty, and was the perfect fuel to start a jam packed day of exploring Wrexham. 🍳☕️

We had such a lovely evening enjoying A Celebration of Welsh Food at The Hand at Llanarmon - a brilliant way to experience traditional Welsh flavours and local produce! 🍽️

We started with traditional Welsh rarebit glazed on Welsh cakes, served with Ceiriog Valley honey and dark fruit chutney. The combination of savoury rarebit with the sweetness of the honey and chutney was delicious!

For my main, I chose the whole local Ceiriog Valley trout, served with olive oil, capers, lemon, parsley and garlic, alongside braised leeks, golden beetroot and Caerphilly cheese dauphinoise potatoes. 🐟✨ The trout was beautifully cooked and the fresh lemon, herbs and capers worked so well with it.

Dessert was Bara Brith, caramel & Welsh ale cake with custard, which was a lovely way to finish a delightful meal.

I really loved how the whole menu focused on Welsh ingredients and local produce too.

It’s honestly such a beautiful place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, cosy and a little bit special. It's the most stunning place I've ever stayed! I absolutely loved my time here and would definitely love to return 💕

A little update from me about our opening hours over the quieter months.

As I explain in the video, running a rural hospitality business comes with its fair share of challenges, and sometimes we have to make sensible decisions to protect both the business and the brilliant team behind it.

The closure dates are shown in the graphic below (Facebook won’t let you upload a video and a photo). We’ll still be open throughout the busiest parts of autumn and winter, including Christmas and New Year, and on certain dates we’ll reopen for pre-booked dinners and shooting parties.

This is simply about using the quieter days wisely, controlling costs and making sure we remain here, warm, welcoming and doing what we do best for many years to come.

Thank you, as ever, for your understanding and continued support. It genuinely means more to us than you probably realise.

Jonathan & all the team at The Hand ❤️

Well, that was a nice surprise! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had an unannounced AA inspection at The Hand today and I’m delighted to say we’ve retained our Four Star Gold Inn rating for 2026.

There’s something particularly satisfying about a spot inspection. No warning, no time to get ready — they simply see the place as it is on an ordinary day.

A huge thank you to all of our team. Maintaining standards like this year after year takes a lot of hard work, and this is very much down to them.

Four Star Gold for another year. We’ll take that! 🥂

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ FIVE STARS AGAIN! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We’re absolutely delighted to have received another 5-star Food Hygiene Rating following our latest Environmental Health inspection. 🎉

We’ve maintained the highest possible rating for many years now, but that doesn’t mean we ever take it for granted. A five-star rating comes from the hard work, care and attention that goes on behind the scenes every single day.

A huge thank you to our brilliant kitchen team in particular. Maintaining these standards day after day takes real commitment, discipline and teamwork, and today’s result is thoroughly deserved.

We’re incredibly proud of you all. ❤️

Five stars. Again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Well… the weather certainly tried its best to ruin the party! ⛈️☔️😂

But you lot weren’t having any of it.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out and supported us this weekend, despite the rain, the thunder, the lightning and everything else the Welsh weather decided to throw at us.

You danced, you drank, you ate, you got wet… and you carried on regardless. And what a brilliant weekend it turned out to be. ❤️

Seeing so many people having such a great time made all the hard work worthwhile.

Thank you for braving the elements, thank you for supporting us and thank you for making the weekend such a massive success.

You were absolutely brilliant. ❤️🍻🎶

Counting down. . . 🎉 🎶 🍻

🐾 BUMBLE UPDATE ❤️

We’re absolutely delighted to say that Bumble is doing brilliantly!

He’s at home where he belongs, on antibiotics and under strict instructions for plenty of bed rest. Judging by this photograph, he appears to have taken the “bed rest” part extremely seriously. 😂❤️

Thank you so much to everyone who has been asking after him and sending their love and good wishes. He’s a very special boy and we’re all enormously relieved to see him looking so much better.

Keep it up, Bumble. 🐶❤️

With love from all of us at The Hand xx
