Running might look simple, but every stride asks your body to repeat the same movement again and again.
Your feet and calves help absorb and produce force with every step, while your hips and lower back contribute to controlling movement and transferring force.
That doesn't mean running is automatically harmful. It simply means that repeated activity places demands on the body.
Understanding those demands can help you make better decisions around training, recovery and how you respond to changes in workload.

The final few days before a 10K or half marathon aren't about squeezing in one last hard session.
If you're getting ready for Run Leicester Festival, now is the time to let your training settle and focus on the basics:
β’ Prioritise sleep
β’ Stay hydrated
β’ Keep meals familiar
β’ Stick to your usual routine
β’ Avoid last-minute increases in training
Your fitness has already been built through your training. The final days are about arriving at the start line feeling prepared, not trying to make up for missed sessions.
Good luck to everyone taking part in Run Leicester Festival on 11 October! πββοΈπββοΈ

Recovery isn't something you only think about after a big match.
Your body is working during training sessions, five-a-side games, Sunday league, weekend golf rounds and everyday activity too.
You don't need to be a professional athlete to benefit from paying attention to how your body feels.
Regular movement, adequate rest and appropriate recovery can all have a place in an active routine.
And if you notice recurring areas of tension or discomfort, don't simply wait for match day to deal with them.
Recovery is part of staying active, whatever your sport or level.
Football isn't just running forwards.
Whether you're playing five-a-side after work or turning out for Sunday league, your body is constantly dealing with acceleration, stopping, turning, kicking and repeated changes of direction.
That's a very different demand from simply jogging in a straight line.
Your feet, calves, hips and lower body all play a role in helping you move, stop and change direction throughout a game.
You don't have to play professionally for your body to feel the effects.
If you're regularly playing, training or picking up recurring tension, recovery deserves a place in your routine too.

Deep tissue massage doesn't have to hurt to work.
It's a common misconception that the more painful a massage feels, the more effective it must be. But effective treatment isn't about seeing how much discomfort you can tolerate.
Deep tissue massage involves targeted pressure to work with deeper layers of muscle and soft tissue. The appropriate pressure will depend on the individual, the area being treated and how the body responds.
Communication during treatment matters too. Your therapist needs to know how you're responding so the approach can be adjusted appropriately.
At DC Massage, treatment is approached around the individual rather than a one-size-fits-all formula.

βDonβt wait for discomfort to become a real problem.β π
Your body often gives you small signs before they start affecting your everyday life.
A little stiffness.
Recurring tightness.
An ache that keeps coming back.
Paying attention early can be better than simply pushing through and hoping it goes away.
π² If something doesn't feel right, book online at https://www.dcmassage.co.uk/ or send us a DM and we can chat about what you need.

It can be tempting to think that more stretching, more rest, more mobility work or more treatment must mean better recovery.
But recovery isn't one-size-fits-all.
Your training, sleep, stress, work demands and everyday activity all affect what your body needs.
The goal isn't to do more for the sake of doing more. It's to choose recovery habits that actually fit your body, your goals and your routine. π

What can sports massage actually help with? π
Sports massage can be a useful part of a wider recovery routine.
It may support relaxation, reduce perceived muscle tension and help you move more comfortably.
But it's not a replacement for the basics.
Sleep, strength work, hydration and appropriate medical assessment all have an important role too.
Think of massage as one part of the bigger picture, not the whole solution.
