Have you noticed that one or more of your toenails has started looking a little different?
Perhaps it's become yellow, white, brown or darker than usual. While changes in nail colour are fairly common, there isn't always one simple explanation.
β¨ There are several possible reasons for toenail discolouration, including:
π£ Injury or trauma β Even a minor knock or repeated pressure can cause changes to the nail, sometimes resulting in bruising beneath it.
π£ Footwear β Shoes that are too tight or put repeated pressure on the toes can affect the appearance of your nails over time.
π£ Fungal infections β These can cause nails to become yellowish, white or discoloured, sometimes accompanied by thickening or changes in texture.
π£ Other nail or health conditions β Changes in nail colour can occasionally have other causes that need further investigation.
The important thing to remember is that not every discoloured toenail is fungal!
As a Foot Health Practitioner, I can assess your nails, help manage certain nail concerns and offer advice on the most appropriate next steps, including referral where necessary.
If you've noticed a new or unexplained change in nail colour, particularly a new dark streak or patch, it's best to have it checked promptly.
π Your feet and toenails can tell you quite a lot, so it's worth paying attention when something changes.
If you have concerns about your toenails or need help with routine nail care, I'm here to help - please get in touch to book an appointment

We spend so much time on our feet, yet looking after them often ends up at the bottom of our to-do list!
Whether you're walking the dog, running errands, enjoying time with the grandchildren or simply getting through a busy day, your feet work hard to keep you moving.
But when you're dealing with hard skin, cracked heels, uncomfortable nails or other foot concerns, even everyday activities can become less enjoyable.
A little professional foot care can make a real difference. π
As a Foot Health Practitioner, I'm here to help you keep your feet healthy, comfortable and well cared for - whether you need some routine maintenance or help with a particular concern.
And remember, you don't have to wait until something becomes painful to give your feet the attention they deserve. Sometimes a little TLC is just what your feet need!
If your feet could do with a little Foot Fairy magic, I'd love to help. π§ββοΈ

π£β¨ What a difference four weeks can makeβ¦
These photos show the progress of one of my clients over two appointments.
At the first appointment, there was a significant build-up of dry, hard and cracked skin, particularly around the heels. After that session you could already see a noticeable improvement.
She returned for a second appointment four weeks later, and you could see the difference in the condition of the skin compared to before her first appointment. After the second treatment, her feet were looking smoother, healthier and much more comfortable. π
This is a great example of why foot care isnβt always about a single appointment. When hard, dry or cracked skin has built up over time, regular professional care and looking after your feet between appointments can make a real difference.

π£ Foot Care FAQ: Why does hard skin keep coming back?
Youβve had the hard skin removed, your feet feel lovely and smoothβ¦ and then, a few weeks later, it starts appearing again. Sound familiar?
Hard skin often develops as your skinβs natural response to repeated pressure or friction. Certain areas of your feet naturally take more pressure than others, while footwear and the way it rubs or presses against your feet can also contribute.
Removing the build-up can make your feet feel much smoother and more comfortable, but if the pressure or friction continues, the hard skin may gradually return.
As a Foot Health Practitioner, I can gently reduce areas of hard or thickened skin, assess your feet and offer practical advice to help you look after them between appointments.

Thickened, overgrown or difficult-to-manage toenails can be uncomfortable and can also make routine nail care at home much more challenging.
These before & after photos show the difference professional foot care can make. With careful treatment, the nails have been reduced, trimmed and tidied, leaving them much more manageable and the feet looking and feeling better cared for.
And remember - thereβs never any need to feel embarrassed about the condition of your feet. As a Foot Health Practitioner, I see all kinds of foot and nail concerns and provide treatment in a friendly, professional and completely non-judgemental environment. π

We often donβt give our feet much thought until something starts to hurt - but healthy feet play an important role in keeping us comfortable, mobile and independent.
Your feet carry you through every day, and changes in them can sometimes tell us more than we realise. Regular foot care can help to:
β¨ Keep you comfortable and moving with confidence
β¨ Identify changes in your skin or nails that may need attention
β¨ Manage hard skin, corns, cracked heels and other common concerns before they become more uncomfortable
β¨ Keep nails properly maintained, particularly when they become difficult to cut yourself
β¨ Monitor foot health where conditions such as diabetes may require a little extra care and attention
Looking after your feet isnβt simply about how they look - itβs about keeping them healthy, comfortable and functioning well.
And you donβt need to wait until something hurts before giving your feet some attention. Regular checks and professional foot care can help you stay on top of changes and give you the opportunity to ask questions or get advice about anything you're unsure of.
As a Foot Health Practitioner, I provide professional foot care, assessments and practical advice to help you look after the feet that look after you. π£π§

5 things I wouldnβt recommend as a Foot Health Practitioner π£
A few everyday habits can make a real difference to keeping them healthy and comfortable.
Here are 5 things Iβd avoid when caring for your feet:
1οΈβ£ Ignoring changes in your toenails
Changes in colour or appearance are worth paying attention to rather than simply covering them up.
2οΈβ£ Cutting down into the corners of your nails
Toenails are best trimmed straight across. Cutting into the corners can encourage problems such as ingrowing nails.
3οΈβ£ Going barefoot in communal areas
Think swimming pools, changing rooms and communal showers - wearing suitable footwear can help protect your feet.
4οΈβ£ Using nail polish to hide a suspected infection
If a nail looks unusual, itβs better to find out what may be causing the change rather than simply covering it.
5οΈβ£ Forgetting to moisturise
Regular moisturising can help keep the skin on your feet soft and reduce dryness and cracking - just avoid applying moisturiser between the toes.
A little regular attention can go a long way towards happier, healthier feet. π£β¨
If you notice changes in your feet or you're unsure about something, a Foot Health Practitioner can assess your feet and offer appropriate foot care and advice.
