One cat-eye polish, three completely different looks.
This is exactly why I don't judge a cat-eye by one swatch!

Hayley Winder - HW Nail Systems Katie Cats-Eye is gorgeous on its own, but obviously I couldn't just leave it there šŸ˜‚ I wanted to see what else I could get out of it... So I tried it over Chocolate Truffle for a deeper, more autumnal look, then thought... how dark can I actually take this? Enter Squid Ink šŸ–¤ Same cat-eye, same magnet, three completely different results.

This is why I love having a play with products rather than always reaching for something new. Sometimes changing the colour underneath completely changes a polish you thought you already knew. Basically, mess about with your nail stuff!
Try the colour underneath.
Move the magnet differently.
Layer things you wouldn't normally put together.
You might accidentally find your new favourite combination!

Save this one if you want to try them, because I KNOW I'll forget what I used otherwise šŸ˜‚

Which one's your favourite? I'm torn between Chocolate Truffle and Squid Ink.

šŸ’ Cherry red nails are having a moment this autumn, and I wanted to see what I could create using three completely different combinations.
From juicy cherry red to dark, almost black cherry nails, it's amazing how much you can change the look of a manicure just by layering different products.
I played around with Cat Eye gel polish, Ruby Chrome and Glazed Chrome to create three different takes on the autumn cherry nail trend.
All created using products, and all giving something completely different!
I'm particularly loving the darker, moodier cherry shades for autumn, but I can't decide which combination I prefer.

So, help me out. Are you choosing juicy cherry, black cherry or glazed cherry? šŸ’

Save this for your next autumn nail inspiration or to try these combinations yourself!

Apparently the October Oil Habit has gone international 🄳 My client is currently in New York, and yesterday was at the top of a skyscraper, living her absolute best life... and STILL remembered her cuticle oil.

If she can do it up there, the rest of us have absolutely no excuse šŸ˜‚

This is exactly what the October Oil Habit is about. Not being perfect. Not turning nail care into another chore. Just making that tiny daily habit stick, wherever you happen to be, even if that happens to be several hundred feet above New York.

Day 3. Who's still with me?

If you've got cuticle oil sitting in a drawer doing absolutely bu**er all, you're not too late to join us. We're doing it together every night, live on Instagram at 9pm throughout October.

Oh, and don't I have the absolute best clients 🄰

I don't often beg for followers, but tonight I am. I need 11 (maybe more to be safe) to push me over the 1,000 followers i need in order to go live on my instagram to fulfill my promise of going live every night in October to support my fellow nail lover community!

We want long lasting nails, we want to build healthy nail habits. I need 11+ new followers to do that 🤣. I do sometimes post good content too so you'll be gaining the occasional interesting thing to watch as you doom scroll at night!

So help a desperate nail tech out and follow me šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ¤£ thank you šŸ«¶šŸ¼

Apparently I thought starting a LIVE 31-day cuticle oil challenge while my 6 year old is recovering from a tonsillectomy was an excellent idea. So now I need you to join me!!

Seriously, please don’t make me turn up at 9pm every night for 31 days just to sit there oiling my own cuticles and talking to myself.
Grab your cuticle oil. Download the free tracker. Come for a little nightly catch up and let’s see if we can actually make using the stuff a habit.

We start TOMORROW 😳 1st October.
31 days. Around 9pm every night. Live with me.
I’ve committed now. There’s no backing out.

Please come. I’m begging at this point. šŸ˜‚

Free tracker is on my website www.amysuchowij.co.uk

Buying the cuticle oil isn't the problem. Remembering to actually use the bloody thing is. šŸ˜‚
So that's what we're fixing.
31 nights. Around 9pm. You, me and the cuticle oil you already own.
We start October 1st. You in?
Free October Oil Habit tracker is on my website.

Being a nail tech is basically learning an entire second set of rules that nobody actually teaches you. Like how you can remember your client's sister's neighbour's divorce from six months ago, but forget what she told you approximately 14 seconds ago šŸ™ˆ
OR how owning an unreasonable number of gel polish colours STILL doesn't guarantee you'll have the exact pink she's just shown you on Pinterest, and apparently, taking 47 nail photos only to spot a tiny bit of fluff afterwards is just part of running a nail business now!

I think these are some of my favourite bits of being a nail tech, because whether you've been doing nails for six months or ten years, there are so many weird little things about this job that only another nail tech really understands and sometimes it's nice to be reminded that we're all just figuring bits of it out as we go.

So nail techs, add an unspoken rule I've missed in the comments. The more ridiculously specific, the better!

Why not save this for the next time you think you're the only one doing something weird at your nail desk!

If you're a nail tech who likes honest conversations about nails, running a nail business and figuring things out without pretending we know everything, you'll probably like it here šŸ«¶šŸ¼

All nails created using Hayley Winder - HW Nail Systems products.

It took me 3 attempts to get this nail photo. Not because there was anything wrong with the nails.

The first time, my camera lenses needed cleaning.

The second time, they were clean, but the camera hadn’t focused properly and the position of the hand wasn’t doing the nails any favours.

Third time? Clean lenses, proper focus and a tiny change in hand position.

Same nails. Same phone. Same nail tech. Very different photo.
Nail photography is a skill in itself, and I think sometimes we forget that when we’re scrolling through perfectly posed, beautifully lit nail photos online.

You don’t see the blurry one.
You don’t see the awkward hand position.
You don’t see the 14 photos sitting in their camera roll that didn’t make the cut.

So if your photos don’t always look how you imagined they would, it doesn’t automatically mean your work isn’t good enough. Clean your lens. Check your focus. Move the hand around. Try again, and please don’t compare your attempt number one with someone else’s attempt number seventeen.

Save this for the next time you’re staring at a photo thinking, ā€œWhy doesn’t this look as good as it does in real life?ā€

Colour in the photo is Hayley Winder - HW Nail Systems HypoGel shade Rudolph

If your cuticle oil spends more time sitting on the side than it does actually going on your nails… come and join us.

The October Oil Habit starts October 1st.

For 31 days, we're going to use our cuticle oil together and see whether we can turn something we KNOW is good for our nails and skin into something we actually remember to do.

I'll be Live around 9pm every evening for our oil, a chat and a different nail-related/life topic each night.

AND... you DON'T need to have your nails done to join in. Natural nails, gel polish, builder gel, extensions, it doesn't matter. This is simply about looking after the nails and skin you've got.

I've made a free 31-day printable tracker too, so you can follow along with us.

Come and join us on October 1st, and tag/send this to the person whose cuticle oil is currently gathering dust.

Okay but THIS is why you can never judge a nail colour from one photo!

I’m wearing Blood On The Moon from the new Practically Magic collection and depending on the lighting, it genuinely looks like I’m wearing two different gel polish colours!

One minute it’s a rich, deep purple, then the light hits it and suddenly there’s this completely different tone coming through!

THIS is exactly the sort of thing I love showing you! Not just a perfectly lit swatch photo, but what nail colours actually look like on real nails, in real life, in different lighting.

If you’re a nail tech, nail product addict, or you just like seeing new gel polish colours, nail products and nail art ideas before deciding what you actually think of them, follow me! There’s plenty more where this came from.

Now tell me… which version of Blood On The Moon do you prefer? Sunlight or shade? šŸ‘€šŸ’œ
