Your body won’t need the same kind of care every day.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Sports Massage are very different approaches and neither should be one-size-fits-all.
MLD uses light, slow, rhythmic techniques to support lymphatic flow.
Dry brushing, shown in the second slide, is different. It can be a self-care practice, but it is not MLD.
Sports Massage works more directly with muscles, movement and recovery with pressure adapted to the person, not pushed to the maximum.
Because more pressure doesn’t always mean better treatment.
Different days.
Different needs.
Different support.
The right care should match what your body needs now.
Support the body.

Post-surgery MLD is not one treatment repeated at every appointment.
In 2025, BAAPS members recorded 26,840 cosmetic surgical procedures — 93.9% in women.
But every surgery is different.
And every recovery changes with time.
Swelling changes.
Tissues change.
Scars mature.
Movement returns.
So the support should change too.
Early recovery may call for gentle Manual Lymphatic Drainage.
Later, scar work or lymphatic taping may become appropriate.
The important question is not:
“What treatment do I usually do?”
It is:
“What does this body need at this stage?”🤷🏼♂️
Your body is already healing.
The role of treatment is to support that process not force it.
One body. Many systems.

Recovery doesn’t always need more pressure.
It needs the right support at the right stage.🕵️
After surgery, your body is already doing a lot of work.
Healing.
Adapting.
Managing fluid.
Rebuilding tissues.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) uses very light, slow and precise skin movements designed to support lymphatic flow and help with feelings of swelling and heaviness.
And sometimes, when the skin is healthy and the stage of recovery is appropriate, gentle lymphatic taping (fan taping) can be used to provide light support between appointments.
It isn’t about pulling or forcing fluid.
It’s about working gently with the body and respecting what it is ready for.
Every recovery is different every stage is different.
Treatment should be too.
MLD and lymphatic taping are supportive techniques. They do not replace compression garments, medical follow-up or your surgeon’s advice.
Your body is already working for you.
Sometimes it just needs the right kind of support.

🕵️The difference between Sports Massage and Manual Lymphatic Drainage isn’t simply pressure.
It’s what the hands are working with and why.
Sports massage works more directly with muscles and movement. The pressure and techniques are adapted to the individual, their physical demands and their goals.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage uses specific, very light, slow and rhythmic skin movements. Direction matters because the technique is designed to support lymphatic flow rather than work deeply into the muscles.
Same hands.
Different targets.
Different techniques.
Different purposes.
Neither approach is automatically better. What matters is choosing the appropriate technique for the person in front of you because every body is different.
Not sure which approach may suit you? Feel free to ask before booking.
