❤️ THE PERSONAL STORY BEHIND MY PASSION FOR LIGHT THERAPY

In 2020, my daughter developed facial palsy.

What initially seemed like a problem affecting her facial muscles turned out to be something far more serious.

Doctors discovered Lyme disease caused by a tick bite, followed by a diagnosis of bacterial meningitis after a lumbar puncture.

We spent six weeks in hospital 💔

During her recovery, alongside essential medical treatment, we also used photobiomodulation with a BIOPTRON light therapy device.

I watched her facial function gradually improve until she recovered completely.

That experience sparked my fascination with the science behind light and what I discovered amazed me.

🏅 In 1903, Niels Ryberg Finsen won the Nobel Prize in Medicine for pioneering light therapy.

Fast forward to 2025, and a major scientific review examined 204 randomised clinical trials involving over 9,000 participants, investigating photobiomodulation across numerous health conditions.

Today, as the founder of Yassou-Me Wellness Clinic, that personal experience continues to inspire my passion for bringing advanced infrared technology to Exeter.

LIGHT THERAPY IS NOT A NEW TREND. IT WON A NOBEL PRIZE OVER 120 YEARS AGO! 🏅

Did you know that in 1903, Danish physician Niels Ryberg Finsen was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his pioneering work using concentrated light to treat disease?

At a time when treatment options were extremely limited, Finsen demonstrated that specific wavelengths of light could successfully treat lupus vulgaris - a form of tuberculosis affecting the skin.

His groundbreaking research helped establish light therapy as a legitimate medical treatment.

And the science didn’t stop there.

More than a century later, researchers continue to investigate how red and near-infrared light interact with the human body.

Modern research into photobiomodulation (PBM) is exploring its potential to influence:

• Inflammation and the body’s natural recovery processes
• Cellular energy production and mitochondrial function
• Circulation and tissue repair
• Pain management and muscle recovery
• Brain health and neurological function
• Skin health and wound healing

And here’s something particularly fascinating…

Research published in recent years, including studies investigating light therapy in people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), is exploring whether photobiomodulation could help with symptoms, neurological function and quality of life.

These studies are still developing, however, the continuing scientific interest highlights just how much remains to be discovered.
