Do you ever get to the end of the day and realise you've spent the whole of it looking after everyone except yourself?
You've answered the messages, remembered the appointments, sorted everyone else's problems, made sure everyone is okayβ¦
And somewhere in the middle of all that, you've forgotten what it feels like to be the one receiving a little care. β€οΈ
That's part of why I created The Art of Human Connection.
Not another thing to achieve. Not another demand on your time.
Just 90 minutes to slow down, connect with other people, experience gentle, caring touch, and remember that you deserve to receive as well as give.
Come on your own or bring someone you know. π

After having my house upside down for a week getting the kitchen floor done and getting back into regular mindfulness practice, I've finally got enough breathing space to start plugging this again!
I have basically created a monthly social that's exactly what I need/want π€£
I'm a big advocate for self care and you've absolutely got to make yourself a priority, but sometimes self care just doesn't cut it. We are tribal beings who are biologically wired to exist in relationship with the people around us and touch is a huge part of that relationship (or it used to be before us Brits in particular became weirdly standoffish...)
Sometimes what we need is for someone else to carry the load just for a while and that's the feeling I'm hoping you'll all leave with after this workshop...feeling seen, feeling held and the deep relief that comes with someone just being alongside you.
Comment CONNECTION if you'd like to be added to the WhatsApp group (anyone attending alone will be paired up on here prior to the workshop so we can make introductions in good time), I'm also sharing some really interesting videos and might pop some meditation practices in there too. If you're already sold, here's the booking link:

This is literally my life's work and now I'm sharing it with you guys. I can't wait to see you there πβ¨

Hey guys
I'm getting a lot of enquiries through the chat function on my website but if you don't leave a phone number or email address I can't respond π€¦
I'm going to take a look at the settings to see if I can make these required fields, but in the meantime, please give me a phone number or WhatsApp me!

Try something for me tonight π
Next time somebody you care about gives you a hug, don't immediately do the usual little pat-pat-release π
Stay there for a few seconds longer.
Don't analyse it. Don't try to βregulate your nervous systemβ. Don't turn it into a wellness exercise.
Just notice what happens.
Does anything change in your shoulders?
Your breathing?
Your jaw?
Do you realise how tired you are?
Does absolutely nothing happen?
Because this is the kind of very ordinary human stuff I've become fascinated by while creating The Art of Human Connection.
Not complicated techniques.
The tiny things we already instinctively do for one another and what happens when we actually pay attention to them π

You know when somebody says, βJust relaxββ¦ and you genuinely want to punch them? π
Because if you could just relax, presumably you'd have bloody done it by now.
You sit down on the sofa but your brain is still going.
You pick up your phone without even realising you've done it.
Someone asks what you want for dinner and somehow this feels like the 847th decision you've had to make today.
You finally get an hour to yourself... and spend the first 40 minutes mentally running through everything you should probably be doing instead.
And sometimes somebody gives you a hug, rubs your shoulders or simply sits beside you and you suddenly realise:
Oh. I needed that.
That's the bit I'm interested in.
We talk a LOT about self-care.
Take a bath.
Go for a walk.
Meditate.
Journal.
Set boundaries.
Regulate your nervous system.
All useful things...
But somewhere along the way, I think we've started behaving as though wellbeing is another bloody solo project we're supposed to get good at.
Humans aren't designed to do everything alone.
Sometimes another person's calm presence helps us soften.
Sometimes having somebody else take care of us for five minutes means we can finally stop being the person who's holding everything together.
Sometimes a hand on your shoulder says I've got you more effectively than a 45-minute meditation you've spent mentally writing tomorrow's shopping list through. π
And that's what The Art of Human Connection is about.
Not becoming more spiritual.
Not learning how to βfind your centre.β
And absolutely not a ta***ic s*x cult. π€£
It's 90 minutes where you get to stop doing everything by yourself.
We'll use guided meditation, breathing, gentle massage techniques, supported stretching and simple human connection to explore what it feels like to slow down with another person.
Come with someone you know, or come by yourself.
No experience. No flexibility required. No need to be good at relaxing.
Just come as you are.

Right. I've stopped talking about it and actually booked the bloody thing. π€£π
The first Art of Human Connection workshop is officially happening on 7th November at Yoga @ Number 2 in Darlington.
This is something I've had rolling around in my head for a while β an opportunity to step away from all the doing for 90 minutes and explore what happens when we slow down and experience wellbeing with other people, rather than always trying to regulate, cope and look after ourselves alone.
We'll be exploring guided meditation, calming breathwork, gentle massage techniques, supported stretching and simple moments of safe human connection.
Come with a friend, family member or another human you quite like. π€£ Or come by yourself β you absolutely do not need to arrive with somebody.
Everything will be guided, fully clothed and based around choice, comfort and consent. (And just for anyone who isn't in on the running joke yet, definitely not an o**y π€£)

The lovely people already on my waiting list will get first dibs before I open the remaining places publicly.
If you'd like to join them, comment CONNECTION or send me a message and I'll add you.
No commitment at this stage β just first dibs when booking opens. β€οΈ
And yes, the fact I've finally booked a date means I now have to actually create the workshop rather than just making pretty pictures about it. π

Can I ask you guys something? I'd really love to hear about your experiences, so I can deliver a better service π
When was the last time you felt properly looked after?
Not when someone made you a cuppa while you were still mentally planning tomorrow's dinner, sorting the washing and remembering that thing you were supposed to do last Tuesday...
I mean when you could fully switch off for a little while because someone else was taking care of YOU.
I've been pondering this continuously while putting together my new wellbeing workshop.
We talk endlessly about self-care, but I'm curious about how many of us actually experience care and support from sources other than ourselves.
So tell me...
What's one thing another person does that instantly makes you feel calmer, safer or more cared for?
A hug? Someone playing with your hair? Having your back rubbed? Someone taking something off your plate without being asked? Simply sitting quietly together?
There are no wrong answers and the more feedback I get the better!
TIA πβ¨

When was the last time you were the one being looked after? π
Not when somebody asked if you were alright and you automatically replied, "Yeah, fine!"
I mean properly.
When was the last time you stopped mentally organising everybody else's lives long enough to notice how YOU were feeling?
When was the last time you allowed yourself to receive some care, attention or support without feeling like you ought to be doing something productive instead?
We talk a lot about self-care. But sometimes even that becomes another job on the to-do list π€¦
And I think we forget that we don't have to find every bit of calm, comfort and reassurance entirely by ourselves.
Sometimes we find those things through other people.
That's why I'm creating The Art of Human Connection.
A 90-minute guided wellbeing workshop exploring meditation, calming breathwork, gentle massage, supported stretching and the importance of safe human connection.
You can come with a friend, family member or someone you feel comfortable with. You can also come on your own.
Everything will be fully clothed, guided and based around choice, comfort and consent.
Nine people are already on the waiting list, and I'd love to welcome a few more before I confirm our first Darlington date.
If you've read this and thought, "Oh, bloody hell, I could do with that," comment CONNECTION and I'll add you.
No commitment. Just first dibs when bookings open. πβ¨
