In recognition of World Mental Health Day yesterday, we wanted to highlight the importance of taking time to care for both your mind and body.

Lynsey was one of our therapists.

Around 18 months ago, Lynsey became seriously ill with Guillain-Barré syndrome. She spent two weeks in a coma and seven months in hospital and inpatient rehabilitation at Bellfield.

Her strength, determination and resilience throughout her recovery have been incredible to witness.

Last month, Lynsey wanted to give something back to the rehabilitation team who helped her, so we held a fundraiser at Urban Retreat and raised over £2,000. She has also been campaigning at the Scottish Parliament for more funding for rehabilitation services to help others going through similar journeys.

Although Lynsey doesn’t currently have the physical strength to return to her role as a therapist, she has found a new way forward within the industry she loves.

We put her through her CIBTAC Level 3 Award in Education at The Academy, and she is now officially a qualified trainer! 🎓

This month she begins her shadow teaching hours, and next year we hope to see her teaching Anatomy & Physiology classes at The Academy.

This is exactly why I love our industry. Careers can change, life can throw things at us that we could never have imagined, but there are so many ways to use the skills and knowledge we’ve built over the years and take them in a new direction.
