Despite gatecrashing my morning meditation EVERY DAY - I could not agree more with this statement.
I think my dog Finley may have been the best well-being present Iâve ever received âŚmost of the time đđś

Funny how life has a habit of testing you on the very thing youâre trying to work on⌠đ
Iâve been working really hard on my people-pleasing lately. The last webinar I watched was called âSaying Yes When Youâre Feeling Noâ and it was all about learning to stop saying yes when every part of you is screaming no.
It was brilliant and I took loads from it.
But yesterday⌠life decided to put me to the test.
Ayla had reluctantly agreed to go to a tennis taster session at our local health club while I disappeared into the gym for an hour.
When we got there she was the only one whoâd turned up.
The coach smiled and said, âWould Mum like to join in? Iâll coach both of you.â
Inside my head?
Absolutely not. đ
Iâve never played tennis in my life. Iâm one of those people who avoids trying new things because Iâm terrified of looking stupid. Throw in the fact it was one of the hottest days of the year, we were indoors with no air con, and Iâd already mentally committed to my gym session⌠it was an easy no.
I got as far as the curtain⌠looked back⌠and saw Ayla.
She had this little smile. Hopeful. Excited. But also that look that said, âMummy probably wonât stay.â
And I just thoughtâŚ
How can I spend my life encouraging people to step outside their comfort zones if Iâm not willing to do it myself?
How can I teach my daughter to have a go, make mistakes and not worry about getting things perfect⌠if she never sees me doing exactly that?
So I turned around.
Cancelled the class.
And walked back in.
Was I any good?
Absolutely not. đ¤Ł
My neurodivergent brain got completely muddled with left and right instructions. I was clunky. Awkward. Sweating buckets. But the coach was so kind and patient, and before I knew it I was actually⌠enjoying myself.
More than that thoughâŚ
I got an hour of uninterrupted time with my daughter.
No phones.
No rushing.
No âMumâs just got to answer this email.â
Just us.
And the look on her face when I came back onto that court is one Iâll never forget.
So, I guess not every âreluctant yesâ turns into bitter resentment.
Sometimes saying yes to something that scares you, simply because it might create joy, connection or a memory, is exactly the right kind of yes.
Safe to say⌠weâll be back next week. đžâ¤ď¸
Whatâs the first thing you do every morning?
Ever thought about trying something different, but you tell yourself there isnât enough time?
Spending 5 mins outside every morning has been scientifically proven toâŚ.
đż Reduce stress by helping to lower cortisol levels.
âď¸ Boost your mood through exposure to natural daylight, which supports serotonin production.
đ§ Improve focus and mental clarity by giving your brain a gentle, restorative break from constant stimulation.
đ Calm your nervous system with fresh air, natural sounds, and slower breathing.
đ´ Support better sleep by helping to regulate your bodyâs natural circadian rhythm when you get morning daylight.
You donât need an hour.
You donât need perfect weather.
You donât need to meditate.
Just five minutes. A cup of tea. A few deep breaths. A moment to connect with yourself before the world asks for your attention.
Challenge: Tomorrow morning, before you pick up your phone, step outside for five minutes and notice how you feel.
