If you’re new here you might not know that the last salon I was in closed down , and honestly I s**t myself 🫠
It wasn’t my fault, but it didn’t change the fact that it made me question myself, my skills, and what I was doing with my career.
Thankfully I found Emma and she totally invested in the idea of learning more about working with curls, but at the time that’s really all we thought it was - just improving our skills behind the chair with what we already did.
Fast forward a few years and somehow it’s become what we’re known for in our area, and it’s driven us to build our education platform to help bring that same knowledge to other stylists too.
I know it sounds cliche, but sometimes it really is true that being shoved out of your comfort zone can really bring the most amazing changes 🤍
Can we stop talking about frizz like it’s something that needs fixing?
Because I think, as stylists, we need to change our mindset around the word “frizz”.
For years we’ve been taught that smooth = good and frizz = bad.
And our clients have heard it too.
“Let’s tame the frizz.”
“Let’s control it.”
“Let’s get rid of it.”
But when did frizz become a problem?
Texture moves. Curls expand. Hair reacts to moisture. And sometimes frizz is part of what gives curly hair its volume, softness and shape.
Of course, we can teach clients how to get more definition if that’s what they want.
But there’s a big difference between educating someone on their hair and making them feel like a natural part of their texture needs correcting.
I’ve definitely had to change my own language behind the chair.
Because the more I work with curls, the more I realise curly education isn’t just about learning a different cutting technique.
Sometimes it’s about unlearning what we were taught beautiful hair was supposed to look like.

Today we hosted ‘look learn lunch’ with O&M UKI in Manchester and what a fab day 🥰
We’ve said it before but we will die on this hill - the buzz you get from spending the day vibing with other hairstylists is unbeatable!
We also had an amazing talk and education session with Kid Silk 🤍 who was just gorgeous and safe to say we all learnt loads! (And we can’t wait to sleep in our new bonnets 😍)
