Her brief? MATTE.

Not “soft matte”. Not “glowy but set through the T-zone”.

Matte skin. No highlighter. No blush. Long lashes and a defined brow.

But here’s the important part…

Matte doesn’t have to mean cakey, powdery, flat or heavy.

You can take away shine without taking away the skin.

For me, it comes down to:

→ Working in light, controlled layers rather than trying to create the finish with lots of powder
→ Choosing products based on where they’re being used, rather than using the same thing across the entire face
→ Using light and dark strategically to create shape and dimension
→ Understanding that dimension doesn’t have to come from shimmer or highlighter
→ Knowing when to STOP adding product

The result is completely matte, exactly as my client wanted — but the skin still looks fresh, dimensional and like skin.

There isn’t one version of “skin” that works for everybody. The skill is being able to adapt your technique to the person sitting in your chair.
