Lucy had everyone saying β€œGimme! Gimme! Gimme!” more this afternoon as she lit up the lounge with her ABBA‑themed show. From the first note, residents were tapping their feet, singing along, and enjoying every Super Trouper moment she brought to the room. Her regular visits always turn our residents into Dancing Queens! An afternoon full of sparkles, nostalgia, and the kind of feel‑good energy that makes the whole place say β€œThank You for the Music.”

The Rt Hon. Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons and MP for Chorley, has visited Astley View Care Home, meeting residents and colleagues and hearing about life at the home

The visit comes as social care has returned to the national conversation, providing an opportunity to highlight the role care homes play in supporting older people, families and their local communities, as well as the skilled care delivered by teams across the sector.

During his visit, Sir Lindsay spent time with residents and colleagues at Astley View and heard about their experiences of living and working at the home.

He also spoke to residents about his own journey from growing up locally in Adlington to becoming Speaker of the House of Commons in 2019. Sir Lindsay reflected on his long connection with Chorley and his determination throughout his career to put the area on the map and secure the best for the local community.

Residents asked questions about his role in Parliament, including how he manages to remember the names of so many MPs, while one resident commented on the dignity he has brought to his tenure as Speaker.

We also welcomed the return of the Poetry club this week. This month our focus was on the amazing works of Pam Ayres. The residents delighted over such classics as 'The Battery Hen', 'Dust if you must' and 'A poem for the Diamond Jubilee'. While enjoying our tasty cheese and biscuits we watched several live performances of Pam including the very funny and very true *Dinner Party'.

A wonderful afternoon of laughter, sharing stories and companionship.

It was one of our lovely residents birthdays this week, as a surprise we had a friend visit with his classic motorcycle. What an amazing surprise for our residents birthday this was. The motorcycle was a 1973 Norton and the owner shared stories of his travels. It was a lovely opportunity for our resident to reminisce about his bike and the travels he had and sharing those moments on his special day.

πŸŽ¨πŸ¦‹ Art Club at Astley View 🌸
Creativity was flowing at this week's Art Club as our talented residents brought beautiful flowers and butterflies to life using a mixture of watercolours and felt-tip pens. Each artist chose the craft they preferred, creating wonderfully unique pieces that will come together to form a colourful mural for our craft room.
The room was filled with conversation, laughter and encouragement, with residents inspiring one another and sharing different colouring techniques along the way. It was lovely to see everyone's individual style shine through, proving that there is no right or wrong way to create art.
Art Club is about so much more than the finished picture, it's about expressing creativity, building confidence, making connections and enjoying time together.
We can't wait to reveal our finished mural! πŸŒΌπŸ¦‹πŸ’œ
