I’d rather have an empty chair than compromise the condition of your hair. PERIOD. 👏🏼

And I mean that.

Let me tell you something that’s stayed with me throughout my career…

I once worked with a client whose hair needed some serious TLC. We spent time rebuilding its condition, prioritising treatments, being patient and making decisions based on what her hair could actually handle.

Eventually, we got to a place where her hair was healthy enough to introduce some beautiful, carefully placed highlights.

Slowly. Gently. Without sacrificing everything we’d worked towards.

Less than 48hrs later she decided to go elsewhere 🤦🏼‍♀️

And sadly, when I’ve seen her since, her hair has been visibly broken and damaged 👀

Now, I’m not here to point fingers or speculate about exactly what happened.

But it reminded me WHY I do things the way I do.

Just because you WANT a certain colour doesn’t mean your hair is READY for it.

And just because another stylist is willing to do it doesn’t mean it’s the right decision for your hair.

I’ve said NO to clients before. Some haven’t been happy. Some haven’t returned.

And that’s okay.

Because after 27 years in this industry, I know that sometimes the most professional thing a hairdresser can do is put the bleach down.

Your hair’s health will always matter more to me than filling an appointment.

I’d rather you leave disappointed with healthy hair than leave delighted with a colour your hair can’t sustain.

That’s not me being difficult.

That’s me being a hairdresser who genuinely gives a damn. 🤍

And believe me, I’ve said no to clients before… and not everyone has been happy about it.

I’ve had clients disappointed because I wouldn’t take their hair as blonde as they wanted. I’ve had to explain why certain colours simply aren’t achievable in one appointment without compromising the condition of their hair.

But I’d rather have a client disappointed with my answer than devastated by the condition of their hair.

Because being a blonde specialist isn’t just about knowing how to make hair lighter.

It’s knowing when to stop, when to take things slowly and when the healthiest option isn’t necessarily the one a client wants to hear.

I’m Dawn. The face, the hands and the very opinionated woman behind Dawn Robertson Hair.

27 years in the hair industry. Five salons. My own boss since I was 21.

My client wanted to say goodbye to those warm, golden tones and hello to something lighter, cooler and beautifully blended.

The goal? A softer, more balayage-inspired finish with dimension, brightness and a seamless blend from root to tip.
