I originally posted this article a couple of years ago, but it received such a strong response that I decided to share it again.

The feet in the photograph belong to a 20-year-old woman I treated in 2012. She was born with a genetic condition that affected the development of her kidneys. Over time, her kidney function gradually deteriorated, leaving a kidney transplant as her best option.

As the photograph clearly shows, neither of her fifth toes had developed. This is particularly significant from a reflexology perspective because, according to acupuncture theory, the kidney meridian begins at the tip of the little toe.

It's REFLEXOLOGY RESEARCH Friday! Delirium is a common issue with children in PICUs, which can create challenges for clinical treatment and care. How can foot reflexology help intervene and improve physiological indicators? Read the study here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42037043/.

Conclusion: "The evidences of our study show that foot reflexology can decrease delirium and regulate heart rate and blood pressure, but its effect on arterial blood oxygen saturation requires further investigation."

Want to learn more about how to become a reflexologist? You are in luck! We have foot, hand, ear and face reflexology certification courses starting this October with a choice for morning, evening or weekend times and over Zoom. You pick what is convenient for you! A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis has examined the effects of foot reflexology on breastfeeding outcomes and postpartum comfort.

The analysis brought together findings from 3 experimental studies involving 260 postpartum women, including two randomized controlled trials and one quasi-experimental study.

What did the researchers find?

Overall, women who received foot reflexology showed better breastfeeding outcomes and greater postpartum comfort.

The analysis found significant improvements in:

βœ“ Breastfeeding success
βœ“ Breastfeeding satisfaction
βœ“ Postpartum comfort

The researchers also found reductions in breast pain, tension and heat associated with the onset of breastfeeding.

In simple terms, when the results of the studies were considered together, foot reflexology was associated with greater comfort after birth and more positive breastfeeding outcomes.

The authors concluded that foot reflexology had positive effects on postpartum comfort and breastfeeding outcomes and suggested it may have a role as a supportive complementary approach during postpartum care.

For the reflexology profession, this is encouraging research. Postpartum care is an area where women may benefit from gentle, non-invasive complementary support alongside appropriate maternity and breastfeeding care.

It is important to remember that a meta-analysis is only as strong as the studies it includes. In this case, only three studies were included, so further high-quality, larger-scale research is needed to strengthen the evidence.

Research such as this continues to contribute to the developing evidence base for reflexology and its potential place within complementary and supportive healthcare.

As always, reflexology is a complementary therapy and does not replace appropriate postnatal medical care or professional breastfeeding support.

Can you guess what I was doing before clinic today....??? β›΅οΈπŸ˜Ž

I was having an incredible sail with Hugh and Tim on Bristol Harbour! 🌊

I needed to be particularly reactive with so many erratic gusts, but it was brilliant to have so much wind to play with. Definitely the perfect way to start the day before heading into clinic! πŸ’¨β›΅οΈ

Huge thanks to Hugh and Tim for a fantastic sail! ❀️

πŸ§ŠπŸŠβ€β™€οΈ COLD WATER SWIMMING β€” MORE THAN JUST A BRAVE FACE! πŸ˜‚
I had the pleasure to swim in the beautiful Henleaze Lake its was freezing but amazing!!
Have you ever wondered why people willingly get into FREEZING cold water… and then come out looking absolutely delighted?! 🀣
Cold-water swimming has become hugely popular, and there may be some great benefits for both your body AND your mind.
πŸ’™ It can give your mood a boost
🧠 It can help you practise staying calm and controlling your breathing
❀️ It gets your circulation working
πŸ’ͺ It may help with muscle soreness after exercise
🌿 Getting outside and connecting with nature can support your overall wellbeing
😴 Many people find they feel wonderfully relaxed afterwards
🀝 And let's not forget the social side β€” cold-water swimming communities are full of people who are slightly bonkers… but very supportive! πŸ˜‚
That feeling of getting out, wrapping yourself in a warm towel and thinking, β€œI actually DID that!” is pretty hard to beat.
And if you're someone who loves looking after your body and mind, why not pair your cold-water adventure with a little TLC afterwards? πŸ˜‰
At Rodrigues Relaxation, we believe looking after yourself isn't a luxury β€” it's important. πŸ’†β€β™€οΈπŸ’™
So… are you a brave cold-water swimmer, or would someone have to physically drag you into the water?! πŸ˜‚πŸ§Š
