Building muscle through strength training offers women powerful physical, metabolic, and mental health benefits.
Bone Health and Injury Prevention
• Protects against osteoporosis: Weight-bearing exercises place healthy stress on bones, which stimulates bone-forming cells, increases bone density, and lowers the risk of fractures.
• Improves balance and stability: Stronger muscles support joints and improve coordination, which reduces the risk of falls and everyday injuries.
• Combats age-related muscle loss: Women naturally lose a percentage of lean muscle mass each decade after age 30 (sarcopenia); lifting weights halts this decline and preserves physical independence.
Metabolism and Weight Management
• Boosts resting metabolism: Muscle tissue is metabolically active, meaning more lean muscle increases the number of calories your body burns even at rest.
• Improves body composition: Strength training helps reduce visceral fat (dangerous fat around the abdomen) and creates a lean, sculpted physique rather than a "bulky" look, as women have much lower testosterone levels than men.
• Regulates blood sugar: Active muscle tissue clears glucose from the bloodstream more effectively, lowering the risk or helping manage type 2 diabetes.
Heart and Long-Term Health
• Lowers cardiovascular risk: Regular resistance training has been shown to significantly reduce cardiovascular mortality and lower blood pressure.
• Supports midlife and hormonal shifts: During perimenopause and menopause, lifting weights helps manage joint pain, mitigates metabolic slowdown, and supports a healthier hormone profile.
Mental Well-Being
• Reduces anxiety and depression: Strength training releases mood-boosting neurotransmitters, lowers stress hormones, and helps alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression.
• Builds confidence: Mastered physical challenges translate to higher self-confidence, better sleep quality, and increased daily energy

Women with irregular periods should be checked for PMOS, NHS says
Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome is underdiagnosed and inconsistently managed, according to Nice
Up to 4 million women with irregular periods should be investigated for polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, according to new NHS guidance.
PMOS, previously known as polycystic ovarian syndrome, is believed to affect up to 13% of reproductive age women, the World Health Organization estimates.
Symptoms include irregular, very short, long or absent periods, excess levels of testosterone, and ovaries with multiple small follicles.

PMOS stands for:
Polyendocrine
Metabolic
Ovarian
Syndrome
The symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment have not suddenly changed—the new name is intended to better reflect what the condition actually is.
A transition period is underway, so many doctors, websites, and medical records may still use "PCOS" alongside "PMOS" for several years.
For someone with PMOS (formerly PCOS), a good online coaching program can offer several benefits, especially because PMOS affects multiple aspects of health and often requires long-term lifestyle support.
Potential benefits
1. Personalized nutrition guidance
A coach can help you:
Build eating habits that support blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity.
Find a sustainable calorie intake if weight loss is a goal.
Avoid overly restrictive diets that are difficult to maintain.
Adapt nutrition to your preferences, schedule, and culture.
2. Exercise planning
Regular physical activity can improve insulin resistance, energy levels, and overall health. A coach can:
Create a realistic exercise plan.
Help you progress safely.
Adjust training around fatigue, injuries, or busy periods.
3. Accountability and consistency

A hormonal condition affecting 1 in 8 women around the world just got a new name in hopes of improving care. It Is now called polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome instead of polycystic o***y syndrome.
Researchers and supporters of the change said the old name, often shortened to PCOS, is inaccurate. It reduced a complex hormonal or endocrine disorder to a misunderstanding about cysts and a focus on ovaries, contributing to missed diagnoses and inadequate treatment, said the Endocrine Society, a global group of physicians and scientists.
"The thought behind that is that one, there's no cysts in the o***y, so it's very confusing," said Dr. Melanie Cree, one of the authors of the Lancet article and a pediatric endocrinology expert at the University of Colorado Anschutz. "The hope was that with a more comprehensive and accurate name change, that it would start to enable and push better care."
The name change – made after 14 years of collaboration between experts and patients – was published in The Lancet on Tuesday.
