MENOPAUSE. WHY AREN’T WE TALKING ABOUT SKIN?
We’ve come a long way with menopause awareness, but there’s still so much more to do.
In 2024, I undertook further training in menopause care and was genuinely surprised by how little attention was given to skin.
Yet hormonal changes can significantly affect collagen, elasticity, hydration and skin health. And for many women, the impact goes far beyond appearance.
This is personal to me, too.
I use HRT myself, and my healthcare background meant I understood the NICE guidance, knew my options and felt confident advocating for the care I needed.
But what about the women who don’t have that knowledge or confidence?
Women who still feel dismissed, unheard or are simply told it’s part of getting older?
Through my work, I’ve seen how deeply changes in appearance can affect confidence and emotional wellbeing.
Ageing is normal. But feeling dismissed shouldn’t be.
Women deserve information, understanding, support and choice.
And skin deserves a place in the menopause conversation. ❤️

Microneedling Part 3: Do you know what’s being put into your skin?
We’ve talked about devices and technique, but there’s another important consideration… the products being applied during treatment.
Peptides, salmon DNA, stem cells, gold… the marketing claims can sound impressive, but what about the evidence and safety?
Microneedling temporarily disrupts your skin’s protective barrier, so product selection really matters.
As a practitioner, I want to know:
✔️ Exactly what’s in the product
✔️ Where it’s been sourced from
✔️ Whether it’s sterile and traceable
✔️ Whether it’s suitable for the treatment I’m performing
✔️ What evidence supports its use
I’m particular about the products I choose, and for good reason.
Because what goes onto your skin during microneedling deserves just as much consideration as the device and technique.
My advice? Ask questions. A good practitioner should be happy to answer them.

MICRONEEDLING PART 2 | Does technique really matter?
Absolutely! And probably more than you realise.
Two practitioners can use exactly the same microneedling device and achieve very different results.
Why? Because technique matters.
Crosshatching, stamping, needle depth, speed and pressure all influence how the skin is treated.
And what about circling? Repeated circular movements can increase drag across the skin, potentially causing unnecessary trauma.
Here’s something I really want you to understand…
MORE trauma does NOT mean MORE collagen!
Microneedling is about creating controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the skin’s natural repair processes, not causing unnecessary damage.
The device matters. The training matters. And the technique absolutely matters.

Microneedling Part 1: it’s not just about the pen.
Microneedling can look simple from the outside, but there’s a lot more to it than repeatedly running a device over the skin.
The aim is to create controlled micro-injury in a consistent, even way, so the skin can begin its repair response and, over time, stimulate collagen remodelling.
And this is where the details really matter.
In Part 2, I’m going to talk about technique, passes, direction, pressure, depth and why “more” definitely isn’t always better.
And in Part 3, I’ll talk about serums, what is actually being applied to your skin during microneedling, and why you really should know.
Because with microneedling, the device is only one part of the story.
