When a client comes to me with dry, sensitised skin, persistent redness and breakouts, my first thought isn’t how quickly I can clear the skin. It’s why is the skin struggling in the first place?

This client presented with a compromised skin barrier, dryness, inflammation and breakouts concentrated around the chin.
Rather than jumping straight into aggressive treatments or focusing solely on the breakouts, we worked on supporting her skin barrier, reducing irritation and bringing her skin back into balance. 🤍

I’m a firm believer that knowing how to perform a treatment is only one part of being a good skin practitioner. You need to understand the skin barrier, ingredients, formulations and how your client’s existing skincare routine may affect their suitability for treatment.

You also need to understand what happens afterwards. Because aftercare isn’t simply telling the client to wear SPF. It’s understanding what the skin needs while it recovers, which products are appropriate, and when active ingredients can safely be reintroduced.

Your skin isn’t a protocol. And your practitioner should understand more than the device they’re holding!

Yesterday I spent the day at the wishskinhealthuk event and I’m leaving with a completely different level of understanding of the brand I work with.
We went deep into the formulations themselves, the chiral technology, why delivery matters, recognising the phenotype, history of how the brand came to be and what’s coming from Wish in the year ahead.
