A Bitter Harvest
New book about the murder of GAA man and devoted father, Sean Brown. Commissioned by the Brown family, and launched at Féile 2026.
On May 12, 1997, Seán Brown – devoted father, tireless chairman of Bellaghy GAC and friend of Seamus Heaney – was abducted from the club grounds and murdered in a killing his family has always described as state-sponsored. For almost thirty years, his widow Bridie and their six children have waged a dignified campaign against official obstruction for truth and a public inquiry.
This is the story of one man’s good life, a community’s loss, and a family’s unyielding fight for justice in the long shadow of collusion.
‘Above all, Seán Brown was a great human being – he is such a loss.

OUR MARTIN
IRISH REPUBLICAN MARTIN MC GUINNESS
"But let me take issue with those in the editorial rooms or in the political ivory towers who denounce Martin McGuinness as a terrorist. Martin cannot answer them back. So, let me answer for him. Martin McGuinness was not a terrorist. Martin McGuinness was a Freedom fighter. He was also a political prisoner, a negotiator, a peacemaker, a healer. In spirituality. And he was famously, hugely interested in people"
Gerry Adams.

In September 1976, nineteen-year-old Kieran Nugent from the Falls Road was the first republican to be sentenced under the new British prison regime aimed at criminalising the struggle for Irish independence. He faced a daunting task—how to react in the face of violent warders under orders to break him. They stripped him and beat him and tried to force him to wear a criminal uniform, accept a number in place of his name, and address them as ‘Sir’. Nugent defiantly refused. Alone, he began the protest that went on to captivate the world in the 1981 hunger strike. Kieran Nugent began the blanket protest.
