Microblading or SPMU brows — what’s the difference? 🤎

It can be confusing, especially as microblading is actually a type of semi-permanent make-up (SPMU). The main difference is how the pigment is placed into the skin and the finish we create.

Microblading uses a handheld tool with tiny needles to create individual hair-like strokes.

✨ Can give a soft, natural-looking finish
✨ Helps fill gaps and add the appearance of brow hairs
✨ Often suits normal to dry skin better than oily skin

Machine SPMU brows use a powered device to create soft shading, powder brows or, with suitable techniques, hair-like strokes.

✨ Can give anything from subtle shading to a more defined brow
✨ Adds shape and fullness to sparse brows
✨ Powder techniques can be a better option for oily skin, while machine methods may suit some mature skins

Both can save you time drawing your brows on each morning and help improve their shape and balance. Both gradually fade, need aftercare and may require colour boosts.

The best choice depends on your skin, existing brow hair, any previous pigment and the look you’d like. I’ll assess all of this with you at your consultation — the same technique won’t suit everyone.

Skin tags can be small but still catch on clothing or leave you feeling self-conscious.

CryoPen uses a precise application of extreme cold to treat suitable benign skin blemishes, including skin tags, certain age spots and warts. Treatment targets the individual blemish and is usually quick. 🤍

I’ll assess suitability first and talk you through what to expect, healing and aftercare. Some blemishes may need more than one treatment.

I have a couple of appointments available this week at my Annan clinic.

You don’t need to know which treatment you need before you come to me. Whether we’re looking at microneedling, a skin peel, skin boosters, polynucleotides or something completely different, I’ll look at your skin and we’ll decide together what is actually appropriate.

✨ Your SPMU aftercare matters ✨

Once I’ve finished your brows, lip blush or eyeliner, caring for them at home is an important part of helping them heal well 🤍

Here are my reminders:

• Gently wipe any lymph fluid with a wet sterile gauze, following the instructions I give you. This clear fluid can dry into a crust if left to build up—blot gently, don’t rub.

• Keep the area clean and use only the aftercare product recommended, in the amount advised.

• Leave any flaking or scabbing alone. Picking can affect colour retention and cause scarring.

• Avoid makeup on the treated area, swimming, saunas, heavy sweating and direct sun during the healing period specified in your aftercare.

Brows, lips and eyeliner have different aftercare needs, so please follow your treatment-specific instructions. If you’re unsure about anything, message me—I’m here to help you through healing too 🤍
