Today is National Happiness Happens Day!

I don't know who dreams up these National Days but let's all try to be happy and spread a little happiness to those around us or to a stranger we come across today.

I feel it's the same as being kind so let's all spread happiness wherever we are today!

For years, I’ve suffered with water retention. My ankles would swell when I travelled or a certain times of the month.

Then peri hit and everything started to swell, for no apparent reason. My wrists became so swollen I stopped wearing my favourite bracelets (and most of them were on elastic, but they became so painful)

My ankles? They disappeared most days, and I would actively hide them because I was so embarrassed. They’d pop out from under my leggings, a GP client of mine once said I needed to go and get my kidney function tested!

I thought it was just getting older, my mother had the same, I remembered her red swollen ankles.

I thought it was just menopause - isn’t this what just happens to women of an age?
I thought I’d have to live with it - it’s genetic, right?

I was wrong.

Over the last 20 years I’ve become obsessed with understanding why women’s bodies change in midlife. Not just hormones, but insulin, inflammation, mitochondria, muscle, sleep, light, stress and nutrition.

As I started working on the body as a whole, something incredible happened. The swelling disappeared, literally disappeared, almost overnight.

My rings fit again, in fact my rings are now a bit slack I sometimes worry about losing them.
My ankles came back, I still won’t wear capri or short leggings - as I’ve got ‘cankles’ 🤣 - but I can press my finger into them without it leaving a huge white fingerprint.

And I finally felt like I recognised myself, I honestly thought, that was it, I’d just have to live with them or take water retention tablets.

This is exactly what I teach inside Wisdom Well.

The 154th Warkworth Show is in just THREE WEEKS! SATURDAY 22nd AUGUST 2026

Here’s a snap from last year’s trophy celebration where all those who won a trophy had their well earned and well deserved moment in the spotlight.

The Warkworth Show is made up of lots of different areas these days but the exhibition tent and all those who take the time to compete really do make the show what it is. Will you be entering into this year’s show?
