Underrated fragrances that deserve more appreciation | episode 1 ✨

Someone recently asked me which fragrances I think are underrated, now I don’t know whether that was individual fragrances or perfume houses and brands as a whole so I thought we’d start a series that combines the two.

For me, these are scents from either popular houses or unsung gems that are under the radar and don’t get the love they deserve in comparison to other scents in the collection.

This is, as always with fragrance, completely subjective. You may think these are awful or not remotely your taste and that is absolutely fine, I’m not correcting you, just appreciating the ones I love the most.

15 fragrances that speak to my soul ✨

For very different reasons…

Whether they’re considered underrated or overrated, mainstream or hidden gems, designer or niche, honestly, I don’t care. These 15 fragrances connect with me every time I smell them, almost as though I’m experiencing them for the first time.

There’s purity and freshness, depth and sensuality, emotional resonance, or sometimes just something incredibly simple and beautiful. Some have a story attached to them; others simply make me feel something.

Fragrance is incredibly subjective. You can read a review of your favourite perfume and see someone absolutely slaying it, but that doesn’t make your love or your admiration for it any less valid. It doesn’t mean you don’t know what you’re talking about. And yes, you’re completely allowed to take it personally. (I am, admittedly, that dramatic.)

Dior Sauvage Extrait, layer by layer, an enhanced creation by

A tasting of scent notes including Vietnamese Oud, that are blended and aged for 42 days, resulting in an enriched fragrance and increasing the longevity.

I openly admit to not being a fan of the original Sauvage, not that I have anything against it, I just find it somewhat predictable…but this? This has a uniqueness to it, it takes the original DNA and gives it the edge.

I also find that discovering a scent through the journey of its individual notes adds so much to the experience of fragrance, it allows you to appreciate complexity, craft and perfumery beyond the bottle.

No density, not lacking in scent spacial awareness. Not disappearing by lunchtime either.

Three very different takes on staying fresh when the office AC has given up.

Ralph’s Club Ne York Parfum might be the best addition to the line yet. The fact that it is a fragrance for men is somewhat irrelevant and if anything it emphasises that fragrance has no gender.

Inspired by New York after dark, a cognac inspired, warmly spiced, oud laced scent of richness and class. Bold and resinous but what really lures me in with this is how well it is blended, ironically, as a cocktail should be.

Aromatics and enriched spices meet so seamlessly, an infusion that makes me think of the pinnacle of class, art deco jazz bars and an elevated sense of style. Possibly why I received so many compliments on it.
