I’m incredibly proud to be representing Tipperary at the Network Ireland National Businesswoman of the Year Finals, in the STEM category, and to be representing Skin Formulas.
I started my career without a third-level education. I didn’t take the traditional route of university, a degree and then a career built around that qualification. Instead, I learned through working, experience, taking opportunities, making mistakes and continually pushing myself to learn more.
Going back to college in 2025 was something I was hugely proud of, and completing my Postgraduate Diploma in Innovation Management was an important personal milestone for me. But I’m equally proud of the career and business I had built before I ever stepped back into a lecture room.
I think sometimes we can make young people feel as though there is one defined route to getting where they want to go. There isn’t.
Education is incredibly valuable, but education comes in many forms. There are different routes, different timelines and different ways of finding your place.
Very proud to be here in AIB representing Network Ireland Tipperary , Skin Formulas and, most importantly, the team who have helped build it alongside me.

Celebrating Emma & David 👰🏻♀️🤵🏻♂️
The baby of the group ties the knot in one of the most epic weddings ever!
These women fill my soul with love, positivity, friendship, gratitude and in this case, lots of Prosecco. 🥂🙌🏼👯♀️❤️🥰
I love you all # # here’s to friendship that never expires ❤️
Sometimes, the process is just as enjoyable as the end result.
Making sourdough has reminded me of that.
The finished loaf is satisfying, of course. But it’s the slow, quiet moments along the way that I enjoy most. Mixing. Folding. Waiting. Learning. Trusting that all the small, seemingly insignificant steps are working together to create something worthwhile.
It feels very similar to building a business.
People often see the milestones, the new product, the warehouse, the awards, the growth. Those moments are incredibly special, and I’m always grateful for them.
But they’re just that… moments.
The real joy, for me, has always been in the building.
The conversations. The problem-solving. The small improvements. The lessons learned. Watching an idea slowly become reality.
I’ve realised that if you’re always chasing the next milestone, you can miss the part that makes it all worthwhile.
Maybe success isn’t just about reaching the destination.
Maybe it’s about learning to love the process that gets you there.
Time for a change!!!
Thank you so much Val

I remember when my entire business fitted on a couple of pallets.
I can still remember placing that very first order and thinking, How am I ever going to sell all of this stock?
Today, I spent over two hours unpacking pallet after pallet in our 2,500 sq ft warehouse…
Perspective is a funny thing.
What once felt enormous has become our normal.
In the next few weeks, we’ll have thousands more Skin Formulas products arriving.
Sometimes it’s easy to get so focused on where you’re going that you forget to stop and appreciate where you’ve come from.
Yesterday was one of those days where the weight of running a business felt particularly hard. It was a day of strategy, financials, long term planning and difficult conversations.
Being a founder is something I’m incredibly grateful for, but with that comes a huge responsibility. Every decision you make has an impact, not just on the business, but on the people who work in it and the families who depend on it.
Over the years, I’ve learned that those difficult days don’t go away. You just try to learn how to respond to them a little better.
This morning, I knew I needed to take a minute before I started the day.
So I came out to my garden.
this is my happy place. Getting my hands into the soil, planting something, breathing in the fresh air… it has a way of grounding me.
I share a lot of the highlights of business, because there are so many to celebrate. But I also think it’s important to share the days that feel hard.
Because they are definitely part of the journey too.
I’d love to hear how you pick yourself up after a hard day!!
Me: “I’m just here for a casual workout.”
Also me when I spot my PT: Perfect posture. Full range of motion. No shortcuts. 😂

Last week, I stepped away from the business for a full week.
I found myself checking in occasionally, not out of necessity, but because I genuinely enjoy staying connected to the business I’ve built. The difference was that I could do it entirely on my terms. I never felt the pressure to be available or the weight of thinking everything rested on my shoulders.
The rest of the time was spent with my husband and our girls, making memories, slowing down and being fully present.
As founders, that can feel incredibly uncomfortable. When you’ve built something from the ground up, it’s hard to let go, even for a few days.
But this trip reminded me of something really important. The greatest investment I’ve ever made in Skin Formulas hasn’t been a product, a campaign or a piece of technology. It’s been the people.
Being able to genuinely step back only happens when you’ve built a team you completely trust. A team who care about the business, our customers and our values just as much as you do. I think sometimes leaders are afraid to hire people who know more than they do, who bring different experience, different perspectives or stronger expertise in certain areas.
I’ve learned that those are exactly the people you need. As founder and CEO, I’ll always be the person protecting the vision, purpose and values that this business was built on. But surrounding yourself with talented people who challenge your thinking, strengthen your weaknesses and help lead alongside you isn’t giving away control, it’s giving your business the opportunity to become even better.
Thank you to my INCREDIBLE team .k.ryan .o.meara
