Émilie Bouge didn't discover perfumery. She grew up in it.

Raised in a Grasse family of perfumers, she learned to think about fragrance long before she began composing it herself. Today, her creations span from Trudon's iconic candles — including Ernesto and the recent Figuerie collection — to fragrances for Creed and Goldfield & Banks, always guided by the same search for balance, structure and emotion.

For Émilie Bouge, every fragrance begins with an idea. Materials are never simply assembled, but carefully orchestrated until each one finds its place.

Can a memory exist before it has even happened?

With Future Memories, Byredo transforms fragrance into a space between what we have experienced and what is yet to come. A scent can evoke a place, a person, an emotion — and become the first trace of a memory that does not exist yet.

On skin, this idea unfolds through contrast: a vibrant green opening of galbanum, blackcurrant and aldehydes gives way to the powdery texture of iris, before revealing a warmer, deeper vanilla wrapped in mineral and musky tones.

Zamak, Bakélite, Aluminium : Would you know which is which?

When choosing a fragrance, we often focus on the scent, the bottle, or the design.
But what about the cap? This small detail plays a major role in the overall experience, influencing how a fragrance feels before it's even sprayed.

How can you tell them apart?

Weight: a zamak cap can weigh several times more than a resin cap of the same size.
Touch: metals feel cool, while resins tend to feel closer to room temperature.
Sound: zamak produces a sharper, more metallic sound, whereas resin sounds softer and more muted.

To the naked eye, the difference isn't always obvious. Modern finishes can make resin look remarkably similar to metal. But once you hold it in your hand, the weight usually tells the story.

Cherry is one of perfumery’s most fascinating illusions.

A cherry accord isn’t extracted from the fruit. It’s composed, then transformed by everything around it.

In Flower Lust, white flowers lift it into something radiant and airy. Carmina softens it with violet while saffron adds depth and structure. Rouge Smoking explores its boozy, kirsch-like facet. We continue our olfactory saga of summer inspirations with the scent of maquis. Both arid and green, the landscape that hosts the maquis is often associated with Mediterranean landscapes, hills and coastlines lined with lush vegetation.

Juniper, lavender, sage, myrtle, laurel and cypress cistus, rosemary... All these shrubs are woody variants of maquis.

Around July 14th, French perfumery gets the usual treatment: Grasse, roses, lavender, heritage. The story is true — but it's incomplete.

There is another ingredient, less celebrated yet deeply tied to the French perfume landscape.

Wild-growing on the hills of Corsica and across the Mediterranean, immortelle (Helichrysum italicum), dries without losing its scent, and produces one of the most distinctive materials in fine fragrance. Warm hay, spiced honey, blonde to***co, maple syrup.
