Lately, many of you have been asking why I don’t offer LED/UV eyelash extensions.

Before answering, I decided to carefully research this topic and review the existing studies and international safety standards.

I learned that there is an international standard called IEC 62471, which is used to assess the photobiological safety of lamps and light sources. Its purpose is to evaluate the potential effects of light exposure on the eyes and skin and classify light sources according to their level of risk.

According to these evaluations, lamps are classified into four categories: RG0 and RG1 (low or no risk under normal use), RG2 (moderate risk requiring additional precautions), and RG3 (high risk, not intended for normal use near the eyes).

Research also indicates that some people require extra caution when exposed to intense light. This includes individuals with certain eye conditions, increased light sensitivity, or those taking medications that can increase photosensitivity. At the same time, many people may not even know that they belong to one of these risk groups.

And now, my personal conclusion.

At this time, I have decided that I will not use this technology in my practice.

The reason is very simple.

First, in Egypt I have not found a way to purchase these lamps from official suppliers with verified certification and supporting documentation. Buying equipment from online marketplaces does not give me confidence that a particular lamp truly meets the required safety standards.

Second, there are simply too many factors that cannot be fully controlled. A client may not even know that they belong to a risk group, and as a professional, I want to be confident that I am providing the safest possible service.

I am not encouraging anyone to reject this technology, nor am I claiming that it is inherently dangerous. This is simply my personal professional decision.

My principle remains the same: if I have even the slightest doubt about the safety of a procedure or the equipment being used, I simply will not use it in my work. ❤️
