✨because who wants flat roots with curly bottoms 🙈

🔸if you have a water-based natural gel (not cream, not leave-in), use it at the roots! It helps with curling and definition and moisturizes the scalp

——

✨I always apply CAST (PRO) from roots to ends,
for myself and for my clients,
diffuse flipped for at least 10 minutes,
and you will get a good volume and curling at the roots ☺️

✨I’ve helped 100+ curly clients and have 13+ years of experience as a product chemist PhD👩‍🔬

and here’s how I deal with low porosity in styling:

Hair porosity does matter, and it’s so much simpler than you think!

☝️First:
porosity only makes sense within your hair type. Low-porosity waves won’t behave the same as low-porosity curls.

That said, two things apply to everyone:

1. Low porosity = slower to absorb water + products.
2. Coloring, bleaching, heat-straightening = higher porosity over time.

——

☝️Here’s the simplest porosity check:

1. If water and products sit on top of your hair instead of soaking in, you’re likely low porosity.

2. Avoid gels with synthetic polymers and creams with silicones. They will build up on hair and cause roughness and breakage.

3. A moisturizing plant-based gel and a nourishing hair cream, free of coconut oil, will nourish and define curls effortlessly.
Check out the link in my bio.

4. Avoid using any towels or vigorous scrunching, do diffuse warm and only fluff hair out once it’s dry.

💦Use more water than you think.
Don’t just mist, work the water in. Rake it through strand by strand until your hair feels fully saturated.
Best is to apply your stylers in the shower.

✨if your tight curls turn dry and frizzy,
here’s what to do:

1. Prevent buildup:
Heavy products, oils, masks, and silicones build up residue on hair very quickly. Buildup weighs hair down and blocks out moisturizer. A purifying shampoo will help remove buildup.

——

2. Layer stylers on very wet hair (CAST & CALM - Curly Set):
Wet hair allows products to spread and get absorbed evenly.

——

3. Be strategic with oils and creams:
too much can flatten fine curls fast. Especially products with coconut oil and olive oil are misunderstood.

——

4. Most tightly curly hair require more water than you think:
Keep spraying water during product application and styling, or whenever hair feels like it’s tangling.

——

5. Style in sections:
Large sections cause the roots to tangle together, creating flat, lifeless volume.

——

6. Diffuse warm for at least 10 minutes:
to set the roots and dry the underside. Then let your hair air dry for a few minutes before finishing with the diffuser.

——

7. And the golden rule:
Don’t fluff or separate your curls until they’re completely dry.
