Post
I haven’t made a post yet about the most recent trip I took to Tierra de Suenos in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. It has been several weeks and when I return to the photos I am reminded of the most restorative time I have had in the past couples years. The pictures will speak for themselves. The beach. The food. The culture. The nature. The community. The yoga. The slower pace. The adventures. And, oh did I mention, the sloths! It is an experience I cannot put into words.

I love it so much I am going back! Mark your calendars for January 22-29th, 2023! It will be another week long yoga retreat at a retreat center on the coast of Caribbean side of Costa Rica. The private bungalows are nestled in the jungle and provide soothing nature sounds as you relax in hammocks on the front porch of each bungalow. Well, the occasional howler monkey may shock you at first but it is an incredible sound! All meals (vegetarian/vegan) are all locally sourced, fresh, and delicious and prepared each day by the retreat center culinary staff. There will be yoga and meditation daily provided by myself. And the opportunity to schedule your own massages, bodywork, sauna, and excursions can be added on.

More details will follow once I have a general idea of the group. I already have some folks who have tentatively saved a spot, so there are limited spots open as I am taking a small group. Let me know if you are interested in hearing more and coming with me in the next adventure!!

And giving some of the photo cred to my last yoga retreat friends especially - these pics are 😍

Not sure if all y’all follow , so wanted to share our sweet Magnolia’s first day on the job. It was impromptu, and we have some more training to go, but she is going to be an amazing therapy dog. This was her at the end of the day after clients. She needed a rest 😉

Blast from the past but still relevant!

Posted • We are digging up an older blog post written by Jessica King back in March of 2020 (oh boy... what a month that was). To think that it has been two years since things were "normal". We bring up this blog again because the topic is still relevant to today. We have all experienced a collective trauma through this pandemic in addition to other personal hardships, adjustment, and trauma. It is important to know that healing is still possible and we are all capable of recovery.
Jessica says, "We as a people are resilient. We are powerful beyond what we even know right now. We have a chance for personal and collective healing and transformation. The healing starts personally, but we are all in it together."

Business ownership can be stressful. Entrepreneurship can be lonely. Leadership can sometimes make you question it all.

And then there are days like this. Honestly these moments happen more often than I report here on social media but today was just one of those full open heart, joyful days that you just have to shout from the rooftops.

I am blessed with a team that cares and is doing all the hard work for themselves and for our community. The colleagues that I share space with in this business make me a better human being and I am so grateful! It’s days like today that I know we are doing something right, and everything is just in the flow!!

To all the business owners out there, how do you know you are in the flow?!

For all my fellow business owners and leaders out there…this one was big lesson I had to learn. Being able to stay with the big picture and step away from the little fires changed my health and changed the way a engaged with all parts of my business.

Posted • The to do list will always be there, there’s no need to grind yourself to the till the end of the night. Watch out for the survival trap. This is a term that Mike Michalowicz uses in one of his books, which is the survival trap of needing to always put out these small fires. And instead of focusing on the one big thing that you should be focusing on, there’s going to be emails that come in every day of things that people need you to fix. There’s going to be billing issues and people taking off and people leaving and people you need to hire and clients who are unhappy and people who are calling and you don’t have a front desk person. It is okay to let the small fires continue if you’re focusing on a big thing, the thing that is actually really important to your business.

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A large white popup with the Group Practice Exchange logo at the top. On it in black text it reads "There's always going to be what feels like a fire that you need to put out." In a second smaller "pop up" window below that it reads "WATCH OUT FOR THE SURVIVAL TRAP" next to a caution symbol.

Haha! Never thought I would do something like this. Good to laugh at myself! But some good info!!

Posted • Meditation is not the act of clearing your mind.  Meditation does not always bring a peaceful bliss state.  Meditation is the practice of watching your thoughts and emotions as they arise without reacting to them, without attaching other meaning, and with an intention to let go of each thought as it occurs.  We think because we are thinking beings.  We have conscious thought because that makes us human!  Our conscious thought is often like a stream, moving and changing directions as it hits different types of terrain.  Meditation is a deliberate means of directing that stream of consciousness.  It is a self-compassionate process of noticing our human-y thoughts and consciously choosing to begin again to focus on the present moment.

The focus can be a lot of things - the breath, a mantra, a sound, or an image.  The real work happens when you notice the shift in thoughts, chose to let the thought go, and return to the moment.  You do this over and over again.

This can be hard and many of you have probably tried.  Here are some tips to get started:

🧘 Start Small - Eckart Tolle said, "One conscious breath in and out is a meditation".  So, don't set goals you cannot achieve.  Start small with just a couple minutes and then go from there.

🧘 Be consistent - set a time of day when you can consistently practice

🧘 Be comfortable - don't let yourself believe you have to be on a mat with your eyes closed!  Meditate in a chair, laying down, in the grass, or while you are taking a mindful walk.

🧘 Be open - Try to accept all the thoughts and feelings that arise with openness and self-compassion

If you are having trouble getting started, check out our guided group meditation with Beth Lewis.  You can join in person or virtually every Friday morning at 9 am.

FYI! A couple spots open if you want to join us!

Posted • Third time’s a charm? So you know it’s going to be GOOD. Jessica of and I originally started planning this retreat in 2019 to happen in 2020 and as we all know, as it often goes, life doesn’t always go according to plan. We’ve adapted with the times and now the time has finally come (well, almost). Now, more than ever, conscious community, restoration and a little sunshine + warmth is needed, not as a way to escape the world (but yes to escaping the cold), but as a way to recalibrate and refill so that we can continue to show up in it. We’re extending this invitation to join us on retreat as two spots have opened up. Message for any further inquiries or details if interested.
☀️
“Come restore your mind, body, nervous system and spirit through yoga, meditation, rest, nourishing meals, and adventure on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica with us! We will explore the beautiful external landscape of Costa Rica through authentic, nutritious cuisine, a visit to a local volcano, a retreat home base of a five minute walk to pristine beaches at and other optional adventure add-ons while also exploring the internal landscape of the self through twice daily yoga and meditation. No prior yoga or meditation experience is necessary.”
