I flew all the way to Europe and found her hair match! 😍
Okkk, technically the trip was for sourcing and education, but a few of my clients were lucky enough to have their hair handpicked while I was there!
Before I left, I took photos of their hair and notes on how it felt and moved. Photos can only tell you so much when sourcing hair. Being able to feel the texture, see the colour in person, and watch how it moves makes such a difference when choosing what to bring home.
I can’t do this for every client, and I keep a variety of textures and hair types on hand, but this particular match blew me away. A single-donor virgin Slavic pony, silky smooth, with a colour that was spot on. 😍
She’s getting married in a month, AND this is her very first time wearing extensions, so I pulled out all the stops!
I’m hoping to make these sourcing trips a yearly thing… who knows, I might be back in Estonia next summer. 😉 If handpicked hair is on your wish list, get your requests in!

Affordable DIY keratin bond press hack 👏
Who knew growing up around plastic manufacturing would pay off in my current career? 😂 I really wish my dad were still here to see this stage of it. He was a plastics manufacturer, and I definitely would’ve put him to work making custom bond molds for me by now, haha.
I was wandering around Michaels the other day when I had a brainstorm involving these acrylic blocks. I’ve seen plenty of expensive, elaborate keratin bond machines popping up online, but this little setup cost me under $30.
The tape is clear 3M grip tape that I originally used on my hula hoops. It was loved by so many hoopers before 3M sadly discontinued the clear version, although I believe the black may still be available. Maybe between the hula hoop community and the niche world of custom K-tip stylists, we can drum up enough demand to convince 3M to bring it back 😂
I tested the press with two sizes of clamps: the larger ones are from Home Depot, and the smaller ones were an Amazon find. Being able to pick up, hold and move the whole thing around felt so much easier than being stuck working with a large, heavy press attached to a desk.
I definitely need to experiment with it a little more, but it’s already a huge improvement and is going to save me so much time. For larger batches, I’ll use it to get the bonds started, then cut them down and refine them by hand afterward. But with smaller sections and a little extra attention, I think I’ll be able to get pretty detailed with it too.
Not bad for a random Michaels Stores brainstorm!

Sure, before & afters are nice, but the bonds are what really make or break an installation 👀
Every little detail counts:
How the bonds are created before the install even happens
How much keratin you have to work with
How you roll the bond
How it’s melted
How much pressure is applied
How far it’s installed from the scalp
The size of the bond vs the natural hair section
All of these factors play a part in how the extensions wear, how they grow out, the health of the natural hair, and even the removal.
There’s sooo much more that goes into K-tips than just melting some keratin and rolling a bond.
