Makery Lane
All natural skin care that is beef tallow based utilizing local ingredients sourced from farmers.
Nobody tells you that running a small business also means being the photographer, graphic designer, social media manager, content creator, copywriter, salesperson and PR department.
It is fun, I really do enjoy it.
Until you realize you have to keep up with all of it.
What am I posting next? What’s cool right now? What isn’t? Is this trend already dead? Is this lame? Is anyone going to give a s**t about this? Should I make a Reel? A story? Take more pictures? Try something different? Why is the camera on my phone s**t? Do I buy a new phone? Do people like my labels? Do they like the Makery Lane vibe now that I’ve finally let her loose?
It’s basically a never-ending game of “is this actually good or am I embarrassing myself?”
And then you do it all again tomorrow.
It’s a wild gig. I genuinely love it. I just sometimes wish the answer could be as simple as:
Hello. I make skincare out of tallow. Buy some.
We’re excited to be introducing OLiV’s premium first press extra virgin olive oil into some of our Makery Lane formulas.
We’ve reached out to the owners because they’re exactly the kind of small business we like adding to our ingredient list. They’re passionate about their oils and balsamics, they care about quality, and we really dig what they’re doing.
A quality extra virgin olive oil makes a lot of sense in a tallow formula. It brings a softer, smoother feel to the finished product while adding a plant-based oil naturally rich in oleic acid and antioxidants.
You can taste OLiV’s oils and their custom balsamic blends at their tasting room in NOTL and they’re also available at Gather Tasting Room in Crystal Beach.
Quality ingredients, people who care about what they’re putting out, and another Niagara business to work with.
We’re pretty happy about this one.
Why does the new ingredient list look so much longer?
There are two reasons.
First, I changed the formula. The big addition is our plantain infused olive oil. Plantain has been studied for its antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties, as well as its potential role in supporting skin repair. There’s some pretty interesting research behind this little w**d, which is exactly why I wanted it in S.O.S.
The second reason is the label itself. I’m now listing ingredients using the proper cosmetic names required for Canadian cosmetic labelling, while also including the name you actually recognize.
So instead of just “olive oil,” you’ll see Olive Oil (Olea Europaea Fruit Oil).
Same ingredient. More information.
The formula changed. The label changed. And yes, there’s a little more plantain in your S.O.S. now.
Simmer Down
A simple way to scent your home using real ingredients.
Our simmer sachets contain dehydrated ginger, oranges, apples, rosemary, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise and bay leaf.
Everything except the spices is dehydrated right here at home, including our local apples and rosemary.
Just empty a sachet into a pot, add water and let it simmer. Add more water as needed and reuse. Each sachet is good for at least two uses.
A warm, natural way to scent your home without sprays or plug ins. And while they make a great fall scent, they’re just as good to use throughout the year. These will be available at the farm stand on Sundays or shoot me a dm to order
Okay guys, the farm stand is OPEN for the day and will be open until sundown.
Today we have:
Eggs
Cooking tallow
Chili oil
Harlow’s handmade bracelets, starting at $5, plus ONE best friend set for $10
Brand new simmer pot sachets
Free books
Horseshoes, which are great for crafts
Small quilts and other little trinkets
The simmer pot sachets are enough for at least two pots. I currently have one going in the house with less than half the ingredients and the smell has filled my entire main floor with a beautiful fall scent. The apples and rosemary are locally sourced, and everything is dried here at home.
Bone broth will now be available by PRE-ORDER ONLY and must be paid for in advance to secure your order.
We are sold out of a few tallow products, and we currently have no soap available. Some of the products that are sold out are also getting a slight update, including the addition of some of our botanically infused oils like plantain, yarrow and goldenrod. I’ll have a full restock coming soon.
If you’re looking for soap today, Fenwick Crick Honey has some available at the Get Lost Market , which is open until 5pm today.
I’m also going to try to get some fresh white sandwich bread out today, made with Fenwick Crick honey. Pizza dough is also a possibility, depending on whether I actually get my ass in gear. If it becomes available, I’ll post it.
Cash box is on the side of the stand, or you can e-transfer for your purchases.
Come grab some goodies! Find me at the dead end of Elmview 💕
I don’t say it nearly enough, but every bit of support for Makery Lane means the world to me.
When you place an order, share a post, tell a friend, recommend my products, or send someone my way, you’re doing so much more than you realize.
I’m a mom, and this little business helps support my household, my girls, and one very expensive horse dream. 🐎
I work my ass off to make Makery Lane what it is, and I genuinely couldn’t do it without the people who continue to choose, share, and believe in me.
So whether you’ve spent your hard-earned money with me or simply told someone about my products, please know how deeply appreciated you are.
Thank you for helping make this dream possible. Your support means more than you know.
Would you trust me?
I may look a little intimidating to approach, but honestly, I’m basically a grandma on the inside.
I’m a middle aged mom of two girls, with a long history in the beauty industry, a little farming mixed in, and an almost unreasonable obsession with natural skincare and getting my tallow game just right.
I take what I make seriously. The ingredients, the sourcing, the formulations, the little details that most people will never even notice.
But the brand? That doesn’t need to be beige linen and whispered words about “clean beauty.”
Makery Lane is a little rough around the edges, a little unexpected, and made for real people who just want really good, thoughtfully made skin and body care.
So yeah…
Trust me. I’m a professional. 🙃🤷♀️🐄👩🎓🌻
Simple body care, naturally.
There’s something beautiful about keeping things simple.
Natural ingredients.
Nourishing oils and butters.
Thoughtfully made for skin that deserves a little extra care.
From face to body, our tallow based skincare is made with simple, recognizable ingredients and a whole lot of intention.
Natural. Nourishing. Simple.
From our local farmers to your skin. 🖤🐄🌼
“Clean beauty. Sounds legit right?
So do “natural.”
“Plant based.”
“Non toxic.”
“Botanical.”
“Pure.”
“Dermatologist tested.”
And that’s exactly the point.
Beauty companies know that if you put the right words on a pretty beige bottle with a little leaf on it, people will feel like they’re buying something better.
But buzzwords aren’t ingredients.
Flip the bottle over…
What’s actually in it?
Where did it come from?
Why is it there?
That’s the part that matters.
At Makery Lane, I’d rather tell you exactly what’s in the jar than slap “CLEAN” across the front and hope you don’t look any further.
Grass fed tallow from Niagara farmers.
Beeswax.
Raw honey.
Botanicals.
Real, raw, NATURAL ingredients.
No greenwashing. No bulls**t.
Know your ingredients. Know your source. Then decide what deserves a place on your skin.
Somewhere between “I wonder if I could make that?” and “well, now I have a business,” Makery Lane happened.
It actually started years ago, when my daughter was a baby. I began making newborn and infant accessories, mostly hair accessories. Over the years, that evolved into natural body care, upcycled products, woodworking and all sorts of handmade things. That was when Harlow’s Bowtique became Makery Lane.
Eventually life changed, and as a single parent, trying to juggle markets, inventory and the uncertainty of making an income just wasn’t something I could keep doing. So I stepped away.
Then in 2023, my skin was a mess. I started researching natural skincare and somehow ended up bringing home almost 30 pounds of suet from a local farmer who I still have a close relationship with today.
I wasn’t starting a business. I was making something for myself.
Then I made a little extra, put it on Facebook Marketplace, made some labels, and somehow it snowballed.
As Makery Lane has grown, I’ve also connected with another local farmer who shares many of the same beliefs when it comes to farming and raising animals. Being able to source ingredients that would otherwise go to waste, while supporting farmers whose approach to the land and animals I respect, has become an important part of what Makery Lane is.
A lot of the products I make today actually have roots in things I was making years ago. The biggest difference? These days, there’s a whole lot more fat involved. 😂
If you’ve been here from the beginning, you’ve watched this thing evolve right along with me, labels and all.
It has grown much faster than I ever expected, and there are definitely some growing pains that come with that.
But I’m incredibly grateful you’re here.
What started as something I made for myself has turned into something I genuinely hope can become a full-time business someday. 🖤
