Maya Laser Clinic provide the highest quality laser skin regeneration and laser hair removal service

09/25/2026

Before starting your laser hair removal journey, these are the key things you should know. ✨

Laser hair removal can be a game-changer but commitment is key to successful treatment.

>>Consistency matters. Your sessions need to be spaced appropriately to target hair during the right stage of its growth cycle.

>>Results take time. Hair reduction happens gradually, and everyone responds differently.

>>Shaving is part of the process. Avoid waxing, tweezing or epilating between treatments so the follicle remains available to target.

>>Your treatment should be personalized. Skin tone, hair type, density and treatment history all matter.

>> ALWAYS Follow your pre & post-care. Protecting your skin and following your technician’s recommendations helps keep treatments safe and effective.

>>And most importantly: be patient. Your best results come from following your treatment plan—not skipping sessions and expecting the same outcome.

At Maya Laser Clinic, we take the time to assess your skin and hair and create a treatment approach that makes sense for you.

Commitment + consistency + the right technology + expert care = the foundation for great results.

This is one of the biggest reasons laser hair removal takes multiple sessions.

Hair follicles move through different stages of growth, but laser is most effective when the hair is in its active growth phase (anagen).

The catch? Not every follicle is in that phase at the same time.

That’s why your treatments need to be properly spaced and consistent. We are working to catch more follicles during their ideal treatment window as your journey progresses.

It’s not about treating more often. It’s about treating at the right time.

At Maya Laser Clinic, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro and customize your treatment plan based on your skin, hair and response to treatment.

Patience + consistency = progress. 🤍

Things Your Laser Technician Should Know

1. Your skin tone matters.

Your skin contains melanin, and laser energy can interact with that pigment. That means your technician needs to consider your natural skin tone, recent sun exposure and tanning when choosing treatment parameters. Using inappropriate settings can increase the risk of unwanted reactions such as hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation or burns.

Research has shown that skin type and tanning status are important factors when selecting laser parameters, particularly because darker or recently tanned skin contains more competing melanin.

2. Your hair colour, thickness & density matter.

Laser hair removal works by targeting pigment in the hair and delivering energy to the follicle. Generally, thicker, darker terminal hairs respond better because they provide a stronger target for the laser. Very fine, light, blonde, grey or white hairs can be considerably more challenging because they contain less melanin for the laser to target. Hair density and thickness can also influence how a treatment responds and how the technician approaches different areas.

3. The wavelength and settings matter.

This is where “not all lasers are created equal” becomes more than just a marketing phrase.

Different wavelengths interact with skin and hair differently. The technician needs to understand variables such as wavelength, fluence (energy), pulse duration and spot size and how they relate to the individual being treated.

Research comparing different laser systems has found that wavelength is an important factor influencing both efficacy and complication rates.

4. Hair growth cycles matter which is why timing matters.

This is one of the biggest reasons laser hair removal requires multiple treatments. Hair follicles don’t all grow at the same time. They move through different stages, and laser is most effective when the follicle is in an appropriate active growth phase. That means treating every week isn’t going to magically make the process faster. Your technician needs to consider the treatment area, your regrowth and the timing of previous sessions.

If you’ve had laser hair removal, you may notice those little hairs starting to “shed” after your treatment.

No, your hair isn’t growing back overnight. 👀

Those are treated hairs being pushed out of the follicle as your skin naturally sheds them.

Think of it as your laser treatment doing its job.

Shedding typically happens over the days following your treatment, and it’s one of the signs we look for as part of the hair-removal process.

So if you’re seeing little hairs making their way out after your appointment…

Let them shed. Don’t panic. And please don’t wax or tweeze them!

“Laser hair removal” can mean very different things depending on the technology being used.

The wavelength. The cooling system. The settings. The spot size. And, perhaps most importantly, the person operating the laser.

These factors can all influence your comfort, your skin’s response, and ultimately, your results.

At Maya Laser Clinic, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro. A medical-grade system that combines Alexandrite (best for lighter skin tones) and YAG:Nd (best for darker skintones) wavelengths with advanced cooling technology, allowing treatments to be customized to your skin tone, hair type, and treatment area.

Effective laser hair removal isn’t simply about having a laser treatment done. It’s about having the right technology, the right settings, and the right expertise behind it.

Your results start before the laser ever touches your skin.

Laser hair removal isn’t simply about completing 6 sessions. The results depend on how the treatment is performed.

Here are a few reasons you may not be seeing the results you expected:

The wrong laser or settings >>> Your skin tone, hair colour, hair thickness, and treatment area all matter. The laser and settings need to be appropriate for YOU.

Hair growth cycles >>> Laser works on hair when it’s in the active growth phase. Not every hair is growing at the same time, which is why consistency and proper timing between treatments are so important.

Hormonal factors >>> Hormonal changes can stimulate new hair growth, particularly in areas like the face, neck, and bikini.

Treatments weren’t customized >>> Laser hair removal shouldn’t be a one-setting-fits-all treatment. Your response should be assessed throughout your treatment journey and adjustments made when appropriate.

The wrong expectations >>> Laser significantly reduces hair growth, but it isn’t an overnight solution or a guarantee that every single hair will disappear forever.

And sometimes…

it simply wasn’t done properly in the first place.

That’s why at Maya Laser Clinic, we don’t believe in simply performing Laser Hair Removal and sending you on your way. Your skin, hair, history and response to treatment all matter.

Because when you’re investing in laser hair removal, you deserve to understand WHY it’s working or why it isn’t.

Here is our approach with trichostasis spinulosa. We started with dermaplaning, to clear away the dead skin and peach fuzz and give us a clean, accurate view of what we were actually working with. Then we moved into the Hydrafacial. We combined vortex extraction with manual extraction so we could get as much of that buildup out as possible using both methods together.

But even with all of that, some of it still needed to come out by hand. So we manually extracted the hair bundle itself. And the Hydrafacial played an important role here too by supporting the skin afterward, helping it calm down and heal properly once the extraction was done.

[THE REAL FIX]

But if this is something you deal with regularly, the goal isn’t just extracting it once. It’s breaking down what’s causing it in the first place, so the hairs eventually stop growing back. A few ways to do that:

• Salicylic acid — it’s oil-soluble, so it actually gets down into the pore and dissolves that hardened buildup
• Retinoids at night — they speed up cell turnover so the hair sheds more naturally over time
• Professional extraction — done carefully, so there’s no scarring
• Laser hair removal — this is the closest thing to a permanent fix, since it targets the hair follicle itself
