Do you actually know what the UV index means?

Most people check the weather but skip the UV index entirely. Or they see a 6 and think "that is not that bad." It is.

Here is what those numbers actually mean for your skin:

• 0-2 (Low): Minimal risk for most, but if you have melasma or PIH, even this can trigger pigment.
• 3-5 (Moderate): Still enough UV to worsen dark spots and stimulate melanin. SPF is not optional here.
• 6-7 (High): Most summer days live here. Burns happen in 20-30 minutes. This is where cumulative damage builds.
• 8-10 (Very High): Unprotected skin burns in 15-25 minutes. SPF degrades fast. Reapply every 60-90 min.
• 11+ (Extreme): Burns in under 10 minutes. Avoid midday sun entirely.

The UV index is not just a number. It is your skin's daily risk assessment.

Save this so you know what to look for before you step outside.

3 mistakes that are keeping your teeth from getting whiter 👀✨

Think your whitening isn’t working? These common habits could be standing in the way of your brightest smile:

🦷 1. Expecting whitening toothpaste to do all the work
Whitening toothpaste can help remove surface stains, but it won’t actually change the natural shade of your teeth like a professional whitening treatment can.

☕ 2. Not considering your daily habits
Coffee, tea, red wine, and other staining foods and drinks can impact your results. A few simple changes can help maintain your brighter smile longer.

✨ 3. Whitening without a plan
Consistency matters. Professional whitening treatments are designed to safely and effectively lift stains and help you achieve noticeable results. Our professional teeth whitening gets you your whitest smile in just 3 treatments!

Ready for a brighter smile? For a limited time, our professional teeth whitening treatment is only $109 (regularly $129) 🤍

Your smile glow-up is just an appointment away 🦷✨

Your psoriasis flares are not random. There is a reason they keep coming back.

If you have been dealing with patches that calm down and then come roaring back out of nowhere, it is probably not "nowhere." Something is triggering it. And once you know what that something is, you can actually do something about it.

Here are four of the most common psoriasis triggers:
- Stress. It ramps up inflammation and can cause new plaques or make existing ones worse. Managing your nervous system is managing your skin.
- Skin injuries. Cuts, scrapes, sunburns, even tattoos can trigger new patches right at the injury site. This is called the Koebner response.
- Cold, dry weather. Low humidity strips moisture from your skin, making plaques thicker and itchier. Barrier-rich moisturizers are non-negotiable.
- Infections and illness. Strep throat, ear infections, and other bugs can set off flares, especially guttate psoriasis.

This is not about avoiding life. It is about knowing your personal triggers so you can reduce flares and keep your skin calmer long-term.

Save this for your next flare-up. Which trigger surprised you most? Drop it in the comments.

Understanding Microneedling vs. RF Microneedling: A Comprehensive Guide

Microneedling:
- What is it? Microneedling involves creating tiny, controlled injuries in the skin using fine needles to stimulate collagen and promote skin renewal.
- Ideal for: Fine lines, wrinkles, minor acne scars, and overall skin texture improvement.
- Best for: All skin types, especially those looking to enhance skin texture and address signs of aging. Not suitable for those with active acne.
- Age recommendation: Suitable for a wide range of ages, starting from the late 20s and beyond.

RF Microneedling (Radiofrequency Microneedling):
- What is it? RF Microneedling combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy to enhance collagen production and skin tightening.
- Ideal for: Moderate to severe wrinkles, sagging skin, more advanced signs of aging, active acne, scarring, and pigmentation, uneven texture.
- Best for: Those seeking a more intensive treatment for skin tightening and rejuvenation or wanting to address concerns quicker.
- Age recommendation: Typically recommended for individuals in their 30s and above, or when more advanced measures are desired.

Choosing the Right Treatment:
- Skin Concerns: Microneedling is great for addressing mild to moderate concerns, while RF Microneedling is a more powerful solution for advanced signs of aging and skin laxity. RF Microneedling is a better option for acne prone skin.
- Skin Type: Both treatments are generally suitable for all skin types, but consultation with a skincare professional is recommended to ensure the right approach for individual skin concerns. Microneedling is not safe for those with active acne.
- Age Consideration: Microneedling can be introduced at a younger age for preventive care, while RF Microneedling is often considered as a more intensive option in later years or when advanced anti-aging benefits are desired.

Prevention is always easier and less expensive than correction. Always.

Once sun damage shows up as dark spots, texture changes, and loss of elasticity, reversing it takes time, treatments, and investment. Daily SPF and smart summer habits are not optional. They're the most cost-effective thing you can do for your skin long-term.

The basics are non-negotiable: SPF 30+ daily, reapplication every 2 hours, hats, shade, sunglasses, and skipping the tanning bed. But knowing what your skin specifically needs? That's where professional guidance comes in.

A skin check helps you understand what's already happening beneath the surface so you can protect and correct with intention, not guesswork.

Book online, send us a message, or stop by Smooth Effects Vernon this summer. Whether you need a routine reset, a product recommendation, or a full skin check, we're here to help you protect what you've got and feel confident doing it.
