Note to self….Cosmetology school never taught me……

How much this career would ask of my heart.

They taught me how to foil, formulate color, cut hair but nobody prepared me for….

The woman sitting in my chair who just found out her husband wants a divorce.

The mom who smiled through her tears during her appointment as she is worried about her child.

The client celebrating as they have beat cancer.

The woman who looked in the mirror and didn’t like what she saw for years.

Nobody taught me that some days would leave me not just physically exhausted, but emotionally exhausted.

You see, this career is not just about doing hair.

It’s about carrying pieces of people’s stories while trying to protect your own peace.

It’s learning how to listen without trying to fix everything.

It’s hard to care deeply without taking it all home.

How to celebrate people, grieve with people, encourage them and still have something left to take home.

That lesson cost many years of burnout. (That I hope to teach you to avoid)

But it also taught me something else.

Clients don’t remember every formula that you have mixed, they remember how safe they felt with you.

Sometimes the greatest thing that we give our clients is not a transformation.

It’s a place where they can finally exhale.

To every service provider, what you do matters.
