It’s pride month, and while businesses begin to rainbow-wash their pages as performative allies, we juuust wanted to remind the members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community that we love you every day, not just during the month of June 🤍

We strive to make Solace a safe and welcoming place, regardless of who you love, how you identify, what your pronouns are, or what is underneath the clothing you take off while you avoid tan lines with us✌🏼

Some quick 🚨SPRAY TAN MAINTENANCE🚨 reminders to get the most out of your tan in the sweet summertime:

☀️Spray tans offer ZERO sun protection, so put on your SPF!

- no, a spray tan isn’t a “base tan”… it’s just cosmetic colour
- use an oil-free/alcohol-free lotion or water gel SPF! (Our favourites are Coola and SunBum)
- look for “oxybenzone free” or “reef safe” lotions
- aerosol spray and mineral SPF will break down your spray tan 2x as quickly… yikes, who wants to be patchy at the pool?!
- aerosols have a high alcohol content which will dry your skin out rapidly, causing you to shed your colour quickly
- mineral oils are occlusive, so they sit on top of the skin rather than hydrating it, which lifts the top layers of your skin and strips the sunless colour

🌊Rinse in lukewarm water after being in salt water or chlorine, and after sweaty workouts, and slather on an oil-free, sulfate-free moisturizer to maintain your spray tan!

- salt water, chlorine, and sweat will dry your skin out rapidly, making your tan shed more patchy
- hot water dehydrates your skin faster, so avoid super hot showers and baths, and use lukewarm water for maintenance

🧴Use moisturizers and body washes that are sulfate-free after your spray tans!

- sulfates are a synthetic foaming/lathering agent in products that strip oil from your skin, causing dryness, and the breakdown of your tan faster!
- use lotions with natural humectants (H**p Nations is our favorite) to maintain an even longer glow, without needing constant reapplication
- avoid products with occlusive ingredients like mineral oils, petroleum, or paraffin, because they form a water-resistant barrier on your skin, blocking moisturizers from maintaining your colour
- remember: Dove and Bath & Body Works shower & lotion products are NOT YOUR FRIEND if you’re a spray tanner! If you’re looking for budget-friendly drugstore options, we’d recommend Aveeno!

💦 Hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE! Moisturized skin starts from the inside-out, so drink your water! Tans don’t develop well or last long on dehydrated, dry and tired skin.

We’ll always do our best to accommodate walk-ins based on room availability, but sometimes we just can’t make it work! If there’s a specific service, date, and time that you need, we always recommend booking ahead online to avoid disappointment. Booking online is free, shows you all service availability based on 5 minute intervals, and does not require any pre-payment.

If you walk in and we’re booked up, please don’t be a grouchy storm cloud in our sunny lobby! We’ll do our best to reserve the next opening for you, or help you pre-book your next visit. If you wouldn’t want your existing appointment pushed back or cancelled for a last-minute client walking in, please don’t ask us to do the same to our other reservations.

We have 6 UV rooms, a spray booth, an infrared sauna, 3 lobby chairs, and a lotttt of foot traffic due to our waterfront location… so sometimes we have 10+ visitors to greet, check-in, clean-up after, or answer questions for, all at once! It’s a balancing act that we looove, but is another reason why we strongly recommend booking online.

We’ll do our best to answer your calls and emails during business hours, but sometimes missing a call is out of our control as we tend to our in-person visitors. 99% of common questions we get asked via the phone, email, and DMs can be answered by our very in-depth website! Blue Monday is known as the “saddest day of the year”

It falls on the third Monday in January, and is linked to a mix of emotional, financial, and environmental factors that tend to peak around this time.

Why does it feel heavier for so many people?
❄️ Short, dark days and less sunlight can affect mood and energy
🥶 Cold weather, staying inside more, less movement and connection affects our socializing
💸 Post-holiday finances like credit card bills can cause spending guilt and financial stress in the new year
💼 Hiring, bonuses, and overall business spend slows down in most industries during Q1

😰Wait… what is “Blue Monday”?😰
The premise of Blue Monday is based on an equation that factors in bleak weather, debt from the holidays, giving up on New Year’s resolutions, travel delays, Q1 hiring freezes, self-harm statistics, etc, to determine that the third Monday in January is regularly... the saddest, most depressing day of the year for residents of the Northern Hemisphere. Plus, Mondays in general? Not the greatest.
