For facial filler, a full syringe may be 1 mL, 1.2 mL, or 1.5 mL, depending on the product being used.

CAN HYALURONIC ACID MAKE YOUR SKIN DRIER?

The truth is more nuanced than many social-media claims suggest.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant—a molecule that binds and retains water. Dry, heated, or air-conditioned environments can reduce the water content of the skin’s outer layer and contribute to tightness, roughness, and more visible fine lines.

However, current clinical evidence does not establish that topical HA routinely “pulls water out of the deeper skin” or accelerates dehydration.

The formulation matters. High-molecular-weight HA primarily remains near the skin’s surface, while some lower-molecular-weight forms can reach further into the epidermis. Clinical studies of properly formulated topical HA products have generally found improvements in skin hydration.

For better results in a dry environment:

• Apply HA to slightly damp skin
• Follow with a moisturizer containing emollient or occlusive ingredients
• Support the skin barrier with ingredients such as ceramides, squalane, or dimethicone
• Maintain adequate fluid intake—but remember that drinking extra water cannot replace proper barrier care

Injectable HA is different from a topical serum. When an appropriate HA product is placed within the skin, certain products and treatment protocols have been shown to improve measured hydration and radiance. That does not mean topical HA is harmful—or that every injectable HA product is intended or authorized as a “skin-hydration treatment.”
