Let's look at another option for EXFOLIATION! It is a key factor in preventing ingrown hairs!
When you are sugaring you should be exfoliating 3 to 4 times per week to prevent ingrown hairs. It is important to slough away the dead and toughened skin cells to allow weaker hairs to come through.
Some ideas for exfoliating are:
* An exfoliating glove
* Dry brushing
* Sugar Betty Sweet & Salty Scrub or Sugar Scrub
* Sugar Betty Deep Sea Salt Natural Soap
In this post, let's look at the Sweet & Salty Scrub!
SWEET & SALTY SCRUB calms and relieves all types of skin allergies and conditions. With detoxifying and disinfectant properties, Mineral & Dead Sea salts purify the skin’s pores by driving out all of the gunk, including dead skin cells, dirt, pollution, stale sebum and germs that collect and form acne and pimples. The rich magnesium and bromide content help soothe skin while keeping away allergenic elements and microbes that cause negative skin reactions. Magnesium speeds up healing of skin tissue & soothes damaged skin. Bromide soothes skin, relieves muscle cramps, calms nerves, repairs skin cells & revitalizes dull complexion. Sulfur is a natural disinfectant, purifies skin & detoxifies the body. Potassium replenishes much needed moisture. Calcium balances sebum, enhances skin hydration, promotes cell renewal, prevents wrinkles & fine lines, and offers skin cancer protection.
Dampen skin in a warm bath or shower. Massage SWEET & SALTY SCRUB on skin to loosen dead skin cells and lift them away from the surface. Residual scrub and exfoliated skin cells will rinse away, leaving a trace of moisturizers and conditioners over silky smooth skin. Follow with SUGAR BALM to seal and protect.

Why Sugar Instead of Wax?
Waxing is a popular & easily accessible method for body hair removal……….but once you try sugaring we bet you never go back to waxing!!!
Sugaring uses only natural ingredients. The preparation is 100% natural, contains water and sugar, with no chemical, fragrance or coloring. It is hypoallergenic, and causes no skin irritation.
It is so natural that it is even edible!
Wax is made of resins and often toxic chemicals as well. These ingredients are often irritating, if not toxic, to the skin. Sugaring paste is applied at body temperature & will not burn your skin. Hot wax must be heated to a high degree in order to become liquified which can cause burning & scarring.
Sugar paste can be cleaned up easily with water. You will never leave a Sugaring treatment feeling sticky. Since wax contains resins, chemical solvents are required to remove its residues.
Sugar cannot adhere to live skin cells. This means less discomfort for you & less trauma to your skin. Sugaring does remove dead skin cells – so as the hair is removed your skin is also getting exfoliated!
Wax has been known to remove more than just the hair, since it can adhere directly to live skin cells, which makes waxing more painful & irritating. Wax cannot be applied to an area more than twice at the most.
Sugaring Paste is hypoallergenic & non-comedogenic. Sugar naturally helps control cross contamination & bacteria cannot breed in the tub of sugar. Cross contamination in a waxing room is always a danger, especially since bacteria will breed inside a tub of wax
Using the Advanced Sugaring Technique the paste wraps around the hair making it pliable. The hair is removed out of the follicle only in the natural direction of growth, which helps to extract the hair intact.
One of the most common problems waxers face is early regrowth due to broken hairs. Waxing can leave 15% – 30% breakage behind. Since wax hardens on the hair, it has the tendency to break it off at the surface, rather than pull it out.
The Advanced Sugaring Technique requires less than 1/8 inch of hair (or 5 – 7 days growth after shaving) for successful extraction. Wax products require that you grow the hair out at least 1/3 inch before your next waxing. (or 2 – 3 weeks growth after shaving).

INGROWN HAIRS!
An ingrown hair is the result of the hair not emerging from the follicle. It remains imbedded in the skin (usually causing irritation and inflammation). Some of the causes of ingrown hairs are:
* Skin suffering from lack of moisture
* Stiff thick hair
* Embedded oil in the hair follicles
* Build up of dead skin cells in the pore and on the surface of the skin (some are more prone to this)
* Course curly hair growing in a curved hair follicle
* Breakage that occurs during removal leaving little bits of hair in the follicles to become inflamed
* Wearing clothing that rubs on skin causing thicker skin
* Tight synthetic clothes that cut the hair during intense workouts
* Skin that is not sloughing off properly
* Improper shaving
Watch for upcoming posts for more info on treating and preventing ingrown hairs.

We all get an ingrown hair once and a while so you know how painful and irritating they can be! Maybe you are one of the unlucky ones that are really prone to them.
Shavers are at more risk of getting ingrowns as the hair is stretched by the first blade and cut with the second, (through the thickest part of the hair shaft), and then it retracts back just below the surface. You now have a hair that is thick and blunt, trying to get through that tiny follicle opening.
Waxing often breaks hair. It also causes trauma to the opening of the hair follicle as the hair is removed against the direction of growth. This leads to scar tissue forming at the opening of the follicle, distorting the follicle, making it more difficult for the hair to exit.
Over the next few weeks I am going to talk a lot more about ingrowns, prevention, and treatment. Stay tuned!
