The truth about Old Hollywood Waves on your wedding day… 🤍

Before anyone comes for me… I LOVE creating Old Hollywood Waves. They’re timeless, elegant, and one of my favourite hairstyles to do.

But after styling hundreds of brides, I’ve learned that social media doesn’t always show the full picture.

Here’s what I think every bride deserves to know before choosing this style:

✨ They aren’t a flexible hairstyle. The wave pattern is very structured, so natural movement throughout the day can change the shape.

✨ Weather matters… a lot. Wind, humidity, moisture, and heat all affect how these waves wear. Calm, cool, dry conditions will always give the best results.

✨ They’re best suited for styled photos. They look incredible at the start of the day, but after hours of hugging, dancing, celebrating, and moving around, they often won’t look exactly the same.

✨ Most inspiration photos are taken immediately after styling, during photoshoots, or in ideal conditions. When I style Old Hollywood Waves for an editorial shoot, I’m following the model around, adjusting every wave before every photo. That’s simply not realistic on a wedding day.

✨ One more thing that surprises a lot of brides… the vast majority of the Old Hollywood inspiration you see online is created using hair extensions. Extensions add the density, fullness, and structure needed to create those dramatic, polished waves.

Can you still choose Old Hollywood Waves?

Absolutely.

I just believe you deserve to know exactly what to expect before your wedding day. My goal has never been to just recreate an inspiration photo, it’s to help you choose a hairstyle you’ll still love after a full day of laughing, crying, hugging, dancing, and making memories.

My beautiful bride actually has very fine natural hair. In order to achieve her dream wedding hair, we used ASPY Hair Extensions clip ins in Toasted Marshmallow from the clip in rental program.
