❤️ Where Fusion Began…

People often ask me how I got into the hair industry.

The truth is…

I never really chose it.

I was raised in it.

This is my mom, Karen, in the early 1970s before graduating from hair school.

She started doing hair in her little home salon in Wandering River while also running the local post office. Some of my earliest memories are sitting at the little window above the kitchen sink, watching her with her clients. I was absolutely fascinated.

So fascinated, in fact, that I used to “borrow” her scissors and secretly cut my friends’ hair in the bathroom. 😂✂️

As soon as I was old enough, I was sweeping salon floors, going to hair shows with Mom, and learning everything I could.

Hairdressing became part of our family’s story.

My mom cared for generations of women in our community, later worked in salons here in Stony Plain, and eventually found one of her greatest joys serving the seniors in Evansburg, not just by doing their hair, but by loving the people she met.

My Aunt, my dad’s sister, is also a hairstylist and former salon owner from Grande Prairie. At 78 years old, she still welcomes clients into her little home studio.

Today, Mom still gets to be part of the industry she loves. Twice a week she fills the halls of Fusion Salon Suites with her unmistakable laugh while caring for our community spaces. If you’ve met her, you know exactly what I mean. She has a gift for making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and seen.

Looking back, I realize I inherited so much more than a career.

I inherited a way of serving people.

When I chose the name Fusion, I didn’t yet realize how perfectly it would describe my life.

A fusion of generations.

A fusion of artistry and hospitality.

A fusion of business and ministry.

A fusion of family, love, and purpose.

Hair has simply been the thread that has woven it all together.

This is our legacy.

And I’m incredibly grateful to carry it forward. ❤️
