💧 The Lymphatic System: Your Body’s Fluid Transport Network
Did you know your lymphatic system plays an important role in maintaining fluid balance and supporting immune function?
Unlike your circulatory system, the lymphatic system doesn’t have a central pump like the heart.
Instead, lymph movement is supported by muscle contractions, breathing, and the movement of your body.
What does your lymphatic system do?
🌿 Helps return excess tissue fluid to the bloodstream
🌿 Transports immune cells and supports immune surveillance
🌿 Helps absorb certain dietary fats from the intestines
🌿 Plays a role in maintaining healthy fluid balance
How can Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) help?
MLD uses gentle, rhythmic techniques designed to encourage lymphatic fluid movement. It may help manage certain types of swelling and fluid accumulation when clinically appropriate.
Your lymphatic system is working quietly for you every day!

Dizziness is worth mentioning before your treatment begins. 🌿
Tell your therapist when it happens—whether you’re lying back, turning your head, or sitting up—so we can adjust your positioning and move at a comfortable pace.
Targeted treatment may also help. When dizziness is related to a neck problem, manual therapy and tailored exercises may help reduce symptoms.
Understanding the cause comes first. New, recurring, or unexplained dizziness should be assessed by a healthcare provider.

Notice your shoulders creeping toward your ears as the temperature drops?
Take a moment to pause:
🧣 Keep your neck and shoulders warm
🌬️ Breathe slowly and let your shoulders soften
🚶 Take a gentle movement break
A little check-in can help you notice tension before it builds.

🌀 Ever Stand Up and Suddenly Feel Dizzy?
You get up from the couch or out of bed, and suddenly everything feels lightheaded or your vision goes blurry for a few seconds.
Why does this happen?
When you stand up, gravity causes some blood to shift toward your legs and abdomen. Your nervous system normally responds by adjusting your heart rate and tightening blood vessels to help maintain blood flow to your brain.
If your blood pressure temporarily drops, you may experience orthostatic hypotension.
Common contributing factors include:
Dehydration
Certain medications
Prolonged bed rest
Low blood pressure
Changes in the body’s automatic blood pressure regulation
💡 What can help?
Stand up gradually, stay hydrated, and avoid jumping straight out of bed.
If dizziness happens frequently, persists, or is accompanied by fainting, chest pain, or other concerning symptoms, seek medical assessment. Fainting with chest pain or shortness of breath requires urgent care.
At Serenity Now Massage Therapy, we believe understanding your body is an important part of taking care of it.

Your adrenal glands are small, but they play a big role in your body’s stress response.
When your nervous system senses a threat or stressor, the sympathetic nervous system activates and signals the adrenal glands to release stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol.
These hormones help prepare your body to respond by changing your heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, energy availability, and muscle tension.
This response is important for survival — but when stress is frequent, you may notice more physical tension, disrupted sleep, fatigue, or feeling constantly “on.”
Understanding the nervous system can help us better understand why stress can show up physically in the body.

Your digestive system and musculoskeletal system are not completely separate.
When you feel bloated or uncomfortable, you may breathe more shallowly, brace your abdomen or change your posture. These temporary changes can influence tension around the diaphragm, ribs and back.
Manual therapy does not diagnose or treat digestive disease, but it may help address related musculoskeletal tension and support more comfortable movement.
Persistent, severe or unexplained digestive symptoms should always be discussed with a healthcare provider.

Why Can You Feel Worse After Sitting All Day — Even If You Didn’t “Do” Anything?
Sitting may feel like rest, but staying in one position for hours can still place stress on the body.
When we sit for long periods, certain muscles may stay shortened while others do less work. The hips, lower back, neck, and shoulders can gradually become stiff or uncomfortable, especially if you’re also working at a computer or looking down at a phone.
Less movement can also mean less variety for your joints and tissues — and our bodies generally like movement.
A few simple things can help:
• Change positions regularly
• Stand up and walk when you can
• Move your shoulders, hips, and spine throughout the day
• Avoid waiting until you feel really stiff before taking a break
Sometimes the body doesn’t hurt because you did too much — it hurts because you didn’t move enough.

🧠 TREATMENT SPOTLIGHT: NEUROVASCULAR & NEURAL WORK
Ever wonder why pain, tingling, burning, or tightness can sometimes travel or show up somewhere different from where the problem started?
Your nerves connect your brain and spinal cord with the rest of your body. They need to be able to move and glide comfortably through the surrounding muscles, fascia, joints and other tissues.
When an area becomes irritated, restricted, or sensitive, you may notice symptoms such as:
✨ Tingling or “pins and needles”
✨ Burning or shooting sensations
✨ Numbness
✨ Muscle guarding or tightness
✨ Pain that travels into an arm or leg
✨ An area that just keeps feeling “stuck”
During treatment, we may assess the nerve pathway and the tissues surrounding it — sometimes working somewhere other than the exact spot where you feel your symptoms.
Neural and neurovascular techniques are generally gentle and precise, with the goal of supporting comfortable movement and reducing unnecessary tension around sensitive structures.
Because sometimes the place that hurts isn’t the only place we need to look. 💫
