Wellness can quietly become another form of work.
Improve your sleep.
Optimize your nutrition.
Correct your skin.
Track your progress.
Add another supplement.
Fight every sign of aging.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to care for yourself. I have built much of my life around exactly that.
But there is a difference between
At some point, all that care should give something back.
Energy to enjoy your day.
Skin that feels comfortable.
A body you trust.
A mind that isnโt constantly measuring itself.
Perhaps the goal of wellness isnโt to become a perfectly optimized human being.
Perhaps itโs to become well enough that you can stop thinking about wellness for a while... and simply live.
Your body doesnโt need to be a project.
It needs to be your home.

There is a lot of pressure to start earlier, go stronger and do more.
After 50 years in aesthetics, Lora sees it a little differently.
Your skin isnโt something you need to get ahead of.
Itโs something youโre going to live with for a very long time.
Treat it well. Protect it. Support it. Be consistent.
You and your skin have a long relationship ahead of you.

That may be one of the most useful things to remember when navigating wellness information online.
A food contains a nutrient.
That nutrient has an important biological function.
Scientists have studied that nutrient in relation to a particular health outcome.
All true.
But then comes the leap:
โ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐๐จ๐ซ๐, ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐.โ
That conclusion requires evidence of its own.
Pumpkin seeds contain magnesium. Magnesium is essential to normal physiology and has been studied in relation to sleep. That doesnโt automatically establish pumpkin seeds as a treatment for poor sleep.
And hereโs the part I think wellness culture sometimes forgets:
๐๐ก๐๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐งโ๐ญ ๐ก๐๐ฏ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐.
Dates and pumpkin seeds can simply be nutritious foods.
Not every ingredient needs to become medicine.
Not every meal needs to become a protocol.
And not every biological mechanism becomes a clinical outcome.
The next time something online sounds impressively scientific, donโt just ask whether the individual facts are true.

Maybe.
But before adding another layer, ask a better question:
๐๐จ๐๐ฌ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ค๐ข๐ง ๐ง๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ญ?
I generally prefer products chosen specifically for the delicate eye area. But skincare isnโt about following rules blindly either. Sometimes an additional compatible product makes sense. Sometimes it adds nothing your skin actually needs.
Thatโs where judgment comes in.
More products donโt automatically mean better skincare. Every layer should have a reason for being there.

A client recently told me that after applying her eye cream, she also applies her facial moisturizer underneath her eyes.
My first thought was: ๐ฐ๐ก๐ฒ?
I generally prefer products chosen specifically for the eye area around the eyes. The skin there is delicate, the environment is different, and something that works beautifully on the rest of your face doesnโt automatically need to go everywhere.
But skincare would be very boring if I never broke my own rules. ๐
There are facial products I will deliberately bring into the eye area when I know the formulation, understand the skin in front of me, and have a reason for doing it.
Copper Tripeptide serum is one example. Iโve found it layers beautifully with Hibiscus Eye Serum and several of the other eye products I work with.
The important distinction is ๐ฐ๐ก๐ฒ?
Adding another layer simply because you can isnโt the same as adding one because the skin actually benefits from it.
Thatโs where yesterdayโs conversation about experience and judgment comes back in.
Good skincare isnโt about using more.
Itโs about knowing why each product is there.

Itโs easy to think the answer is the treatment.
But after more than three decades working with skin, I think the greater value is in the decisions surrounding it.
Knowing when to introduce something new.
Knowing when to leave well enough alone.
Recognizing when a popular ingredient may not be right for the person sitting in front of you.
Watching how skin responds over time, then adjusting accordingly.
Information has never been more accessible. And I think thatโs a good thing.
But information and judgment are not the same.
Experience is built by making a decision, observing what happens next, and carrying that knowledge into the next decision.

There is always something else we could be fixing.
Another line. Another pore. Another sign of age. Another part of ourselves to examine a little more closely.
But taking care of yourself does not have to begin with finding something wrong.
It can begin with wanting to feel strong. To have energy. To sleep well. To move. To nourish your skin. To protect what you have and support it as it changes.
There is a difference between caring for yourself and constantly correcting yourself.
At Masterpiece, we believe beauty can be maintained without becoming an obsession. That aging can be supported without being treated as a failure. And that looking well is often most beautiful when it grows from actually being well.
You do not have to be fixing yourself
to be taking care of yourself.

THE ART OF TIME | ARCHIVE 005
Before it was stone, it was coral.
Approximately 25โ38 million years ago, during the Oligocene to Early Miocene, warm, shallow seas covered parts of what is now Florida. Coral grew beneath those waters, long before the landscape we recognize today existed.
Over millions of years, buried coral was transformed as silica-rich groundwater gradually replaced its original material with agate and chalcedony. Its form endured, while its substance changed.
Iโve never encountered another quite like it.
From the outside, it looks like an ordinary weathered stone. Inside is an extraordinary world of pale blue, ivory and amber formationsโa record of a place and a time that no longer exist as they once did.
TIME DID NOT ERASE IT. TIME TRANSFORMED IT.
Some things become more extraordinary with time.

Do you need a 10ร magnifying mirror to examine your skin?
We asked Lora, our resident aesthetician with 50 years of experience. Her first question was for the producer. ๐
Lora has used magnifying mirrors throughout her career to show clients what she sees during a professional skin assessment. But at home? She believes a normal mirror is quite enough.
Her advice: donโt turn every pore into a problem that needs solving.
Pay attention to your skin, be gentle with it, and seek professional guidance when you need it. If you notice a new or changing spot, have it assessed by a qualified healthcare professional.
Welcome to Loraโs Masterclass, where five decades of experience meet the questions weโre all asking.
And yes, Friedrich has opinions too.
