This weekend, Port Coquitlam came together for the Terry Fox Hometown Run, and we were proud to be there once again. ❤️

Terry’s story began right here in our community, and every year, it’s incredible to see that same community come together to carry his legacy forward and support cancer research.

Our Coast Therapy team was on site throughout the morning, with Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Registered Massage Therapists, and Naturopathic Doctor there to provide stretching, massage, movement support, and answer questions.

From pre-run tune-ups to post-run support, we were happy to help runners, walkers, and wheelers get moving comfortably and feel their best before and after crossing the finish line.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, cheered, and showed up for such an important cause.

We’re proud to be part of the Port Coquitlam community — and even prouder to help keep our community moving. 💙

Sometimes, talking about difficult experiences isn't enough.

Now offering EMDR Counselling in Maple Ridge, a specialized approach to help process trauma and emotional distress.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps the brain process distressing or overwhelming experiences, so they feel less intense and less disruptive.

You may find EMDR helpful if you're experiencing:

Trauma or distressing memories
Anxiety or fear
Phobias
Grief or loss
Experiences that continue to feel "stuck"

Healing doesn't mean forgetting what happened. It can mean changing how those experiences affect you today.

Natasha Sani, MA, RCC, CCC is now booking EMDR sessions in Maple Ridge.

2 days to go.

This Sunday, we're back at the Terry Fox Hometown Run, a tradition Coast Therapy has been proud to be part of since 1998.

Here's a look back at us in action last year, treating runners, walkers, and everyone in between, right at the finish line.

See you there on Sunday, September 20. Come say hi, we'll be offering treatment and stretching all day, by donation.

Good care isn't just what happens in the treatment room, it's the people behind it.

Today, meet Dr. Elliot Mayhew, Chiropractor. He takes a functional approach to health care, helping patients reduce pain and improve movement, with a background in sports medicine treating high-performance athletes.

10+ years in healthcare, including medical staff for the BC Lions, Vancouver FC, Vancouver Giants, and Coquitlam Express.

Q: What made you want to work in Allied Healthcare?
It began as a lifeguard in high school, then studying Kinesiology at Western University, where I found my interest in fitness and biomechanics. That led me to my Doctor of Chiropractic: helping others become the best versions of themselves.

Q: Walk us through a typical patient visit.
Four steps: Review (why you're here), Reassessment (checking your condition every visit), Treatment (myofascial release, joint mobilization, cupping, soft-tissue therapy, or spinal manipulation, depending on your needs), and Education (understanding your plan, with exercise and lifestyle guidance).

Many patients say their visits feel different. I think it's the individualized care: doing what's right for each patient and their goals.

Q: Does treating elite athletes change how you approach a patient who isn't one?
I take a person-first approach with all my patients, regardless of their athletic background. I assess functional movement, how you lift, carry, squat, push, and pull, to find dysfunction and teach you how to fix it. Most people come to me in pain, and I build a plan to hurt less and move more.

Q: What's a fun fact about you?
I minored in geography alongside kinesiology. I love being in nature, hiking, and exploring new places with my family. Our travel goal: visit every National Park in Canada.

Q: What's the most rewarding part of your work?
Watching my patients hit their goals. The soccer player back after a knee injury. The lacrosse player who made an A1 rep team. The hockey player who scored the playoff-winning goal. The firefighter who can sleep through the night. The RCMP cadet I trained for Depot, serving the community.

High standards, driven by results, that's what makes this work.

Who says core work has to be boring?

The rocking plank builds core stability while working your shoulders and hips at the same time, a small movement with a big payoff.

Tag a friend you'd challenge to try this.
